This beach is new and takes a good minute to get to. The day we went the surf was high and no one was swimming but there is a lifeguard there. If you remember the old Isaac Hale boat launch, it is now almost fully covered with lava, hence the new black sand beach. There were a few natural hot springs right near by with about 10 people enjoying them. The views of the ocean are magnificent, but the real treat was driving through the lush area and covered roads to get there and back. Passing through the recent lava flows was a bit heartbreaking. It's worth the trip but go with plenty of fuel in the car.
It’s a beautiful black rocky beach. I personally would not swim there but there’s a lifeguard and two lagoons a few yards back so you can take your kids there and be safe. The view towards the land is even better then the ocean view. Not crowded.
Awesome black sand beach with some hot springs! Some of the shore is rocky and some is beach. Past a certain point, it's sacred land, so remember pono. There is trash bins and porta potties in the parking area.
Uncovering a spot on the Big Island that isn't a testament to natural marvels proves to be quite the challenge. If you happen to have a car, make sure to venture into the southern vicinity near Pahoa, as it has the ability to transport you into an entirely different realm.
Lots of parking available and a few picnic tables at this former boat ramp and surfing beach.
Fantastic views! The power of the waves against the lava field and rocks on the beach was amazing to see.
Very rocky and not swimmable beach. It’s good to go and hangout but you can’t swim, maybe if you go like south you can find a place to swim. There are bathrooms and camp grounds. I saw people fishing in the small ponds created by waves.
Brand new black sand beach that is being made every day since the most recent 2018 eruption on the big island. Its a long ways out of town and the roads are not the best, so go slow and take your time. Lots of people walking and biking and the road is very narrow and winding. Definitely worth the drive out.

Melissa is a great host, with a wealth of knowledge.
Stopped in to get a dessert to bring to a dinner party and was delighted at how cute the shop was! Small but packed with all types of beautiful looking goodies. Was tempted by the cake pops and the Tahitian lime bars, but finally decided on the lili
Beautiful little church with a rich history. There are picnic tables on the side of the church and a singular porta-potty. Thereâs a sink to wash hands but may or may not have soap. The plants and flowers are so beautiful around the church as well
The highlight of the park.
We parked at Lava Tubes and started straight down into the crater. Our plan was to do a loop by circling back on the canyon rim trail. In retrospect, I should have parked at KÄ«lauea Iki Overlook Parking Lot, because it ha
Nice family run business with island flavored ice creams. My favorite is the Coconut Haupia. They also offer banana splits, shakes, coffee, root beer floats, and shave ice. I always grab some ice cream when waiting for my dinner/lunch at the surround
