Great book store with an adorable retro cafe, coffee, ice cream, and a whole vegan menu! Love that they carry Herbivorus Butcher vegan deli!! There is a stage towards the back of the book side for readings for small live music.
I got “The Skigs” sandwich for lunch and I am not kidding when I say that was literally the best sandwich I’ve ever had. It’s a simple sandwich but the pesto/dressing was perfect. It was fast, good atmosphere, and kind people! I will definitely be hitting this place up again!
Lots of vegan options and I really like that the coffee cups and lids are biodegradable that is incredible! Five stars
I'm so mad I haven't been here sooner! It hit all the major points; price, quality, service and atmosphere. I tried one of the vegan option sandwiches and the Cinnamon cappuccino. It's very spacious and cozy with a lounge area, plenty tables, and all the books surrounding.
Awesome place!! They have a sandwich counter, ice cream and coffee bar. They even have a vegan sandwich menu, which is a bit of a rarity locally. I usually just go here to browse the great selection of books — I always find something, and always at a reasonable price (usually less than $10!) I haven’t seen anything super rare or collectible in their shelves but there aren’t many places around that have this kind of book selection including used and vintage.
Loved the atmosphere and coffee, needs more comfortable furniture tho so i can enjoy my books. I didn't like the stinky water that they were using on the beautiful wood floors, but other than that it was great I like the set up very cozy! And people were nice.
Love the ambiance, literary menu names, ice cream, and coffee. My sandwich was Ben's Bird of Courage. Looked perfect but too big to take a bite and everything fell out. Broccoli cheese soup tasted great but a little too liquid for my taste.
I love the way it's divided by bookshelves! Great place to take your time with lunch and a good book, alone or in a group, or even go around a corner of shelves for a quiet couple. Staff is ultra friendly and helpful.

This place is always phenomenal. They're usually packed so we go during odd hours. We went around 12:30pm today and grabbed some seats at the bar. Once you sit down service is pretty fast. My go-to is Steak and Eggs! Everything is always cooked exact
Everything is an explosion of flavor combinations and textures. Madeleine does an amazing job however this salad, the Smokey Pecan Salad, just entered a new realm. Absolutely amazing and my new NWK favorite..next to the Giardiniera Hummus. Thank you
I stopped in Des Moines for a couple of days and the crew at CrossFit Akeso treated me like I'd been a member for years! Big thanks to the 5:15 am class for the hospitality. Definitely coming back next time I'm in Des Moines.

This is one of the most beautiful coffee shops Iâve ever seen! I was in Des Moines looking for a place to do some computer work and get some coffee and this is the best possible place. Very thoughtfully designed interior. I found myself transfixed
Des Moines has amazing food. Manhattan Deli is the best sandwich shop in town. Service is always fast. The Mama Mia is my favorite, but all the sandwiches are tasty.
Tour guide gave lots of good information about the history of the building. The building itself was spectacular and beautiful. Kudos to the state of Iowas for preserving and maintaining it.
I always have a wonderful experience at Freedom Blend. One of the best spaces in Des Moines for relaxation, connecting with friends, a peaceful environment, and an affective work space to get studying and work done. The drinks are delicious as well!
I was here last summer, so it was nice to come back. The service and atmosphere is great! I specifically remember the pleasant staff, atmosphere, and local artwork!!! They had some stained glass pieces that really resonated with me that summer. This
