Paycom was the worst company I've ever worked for - degrading, dishonest, and toxic. After just six months I was so frustrated and demoralized that I quit. You'd think that an HR software company would have better respect for its software developers. You'd also think that a company that sells software as its primary revenue would have more respect for the quality of its software. But the data didn't even have first level normalization, and they had no intention of changing that. Not only were they using an anemic domain model in their "attempt" at clean architecture, but they refused to listen to me when I tried to point out how it was a bad idea which would lead to a horrible framework base and tangled spaghetti-code. Their attempts at clean-architecture were so naive that it would aspire to become sophomoric; and the various app layers were tightly coupled irreparably despite their pedantic attempts to use DTOs and interfaces. When I tried to explain the differences between asynchronous, concurrent, and parallel programming to speed up application responses, no developers on my team had sufficient computer science education to understand; and worse yet, no one I met there had ever heard of common industry design patterns. The management were also extremely uninformed and misinformed about software engineering. They had an arthritic misconception of agile methodologies and they had zero domain modeling. Their methodology process was so convoluted that we ended up spending more time on merge conflict resolution than actual coding. Those are just the problems and shortcomings I remember off the top of my head. It was maddening. If you're passionate about good software, DO NOT go to work there because you'll find the environment there to be carcinogenic to your sanity and acerbic to your dignity. It was like the greasy, fast-food, assembly-line of software production. I was assigned to the tax reporting software department and based on the egregious programming I witnessed, I wonder how long it'll be before the IRS goes after some company using Paycom's tax service. Paycom management likes to scapegoat the programmers for the mistakes that the managers make. For example, they'll tell a developer to do something, he does it exactly as they asked, but then it turns out that the managers gave incorrect instructions and they blame the developer. It's disgusting. It's absolutely disgusting. When I was hired, I was told I was to work at one location and I rented an apartment near there and moved in. Then, the day before my start date, they told me I was to work at a different location. That was costly because I had gone through the process of moving for no good readon. After I started working there, I asked for a standing desk and I got a doctor's note for it because of back pain. Paycom gave me some cheap plastic device that hurt my back worse trying to adjust it. When I asked for something that wouldn't hurt me, they wanted me to jump through hoops and run a maze of bureaucratic red-tape. That's their way of dealing with software development also, labyrinthine processes that waste your time with Mickey Mouse trivialities that take time and energy away from what should be the real work. So, the company doesn't respect its employees or the software products it sells. I think that a considerable portion of the company's revenue comes from gullible investors that Paycom deceives into believing that its software is developed efficiently and effectively.

We were with Paycom a couple of years. They were excellent in the beginning then their service started to suffer so we made a change now they want us to pay them 10% of our annual revenue just have access to some data that we need for an audit basically they’re trying to extort 10% of our revenue from us.
