I just recently saw this mine was here not long ago and had to come check it out. Now I see mixed reviews on the hike. I followed the Google Map directions to the parking lot and it lead me to a dead end and a private property sign so we found another trailhead. I wouldn't call it an easy hike but my 5 year old was able to complete it and loved every minute. If I had a second child with me I don't think I could have done it - it was pretty steep in some places with a narrow paths.
This was a nice, less busy, but moderately difficult hike. In the heat of the summer it might be pretty miserable because it was full sun all the way to Patsy's Mine. But for the day we went where it was much cooler (high was about 75 with a gentle breeze) it was great. We were warned at the start that there are rattlesnakes in the area, and sure enough, we came across one a few miles into it. The mine itself was neat. Slight crouching gets you a ways back in. Overall we had a good time, but snake haters, beware!
Great hike. Mine was cool, went back a lot farther then I thought it would. View at the top was awesome. It's not like a simple stroll though, bring water and snacks. 👍
The trail going to Patsy’s Mine is the ultimate bonding experience for your whole family because it is easy and suitable for kids. This is a popular hillside trail that leads to an old mine carved into solid rock. And what makes the trail even more amazing and exciting is that the entire hike is along the face of the foothills and gives you a panoramic view of the lake and Antelope Island. The trail is fairly steep but the kids will surely enjoy it because they can spot lizards and cottontails on the way up. And there is a popular stop where hikers can take a break at the Lion King looking rock where you can pose as if you are Simba. And once you reach the mine, make sure to grab your flashlights and headlamps because it will be pitch black. And upon entering the mine, you have to stoop a little but once you get inside you can stand up all the way. There are different rooms off of the main tunnel and make sure to take lots of pictures
The hike was a little hard to find and steep. But it was relatively short and a great adventure. The mine itself goes in a pretty decent distance but is a little stuffy. If you continue on the trail you'll go to flag rock which is also pretty cool. Hit me up if you wanna explore some other mines.
The hike was amazing although we dis have a scare in the cave. There was a ghost with legs but nothing for the top half. Other than that it was coolio.
A hugely enjoyable hike that I have taken several times over several years now. There is a bit of a climb, and it can be easy to lose the trail where it intersects with the Bonneville Shoreline Trail, so be careful. The mine itself isn’t very deep, but you can get far enough in to not see any light in several places. I’m a big fan.
Very good trail. My siblings and I used this trail in preparation for a backpacking trip. There is not much shade and the trail itself can become very steep, but you can see the end destination from nearly every point on the hike and for us that made it easier. I would however recommend caution as to Patsy's Mine itself. Upon one arrival we discovered a large rattlesnake roughly 3 feet in length at the entrance.
Staff went out of their way to make you feel welcomed. The location is terrible you canât even get a Lyft/Uber, but the staff make up for it with their hospitality. Management was great. Extremely kind, understanding, and generous.
