Loved this trail and can’t wait to go back. It turns out that parts of the Soapstone trail are no longer accessible, you’ll find the old path is blocked off. Apparently it’s private property now. However, the trail has been re-routed so, it shouldn’t cause any problems. We passed several friendly people walking their dogs.
More beautiful than I thought. Many tables and grill are in the area along with the creek. Has playground and restrooms, soapstone trail is right next to the restroom.
Best spot to park to access the Soapstone Trail. Part of the Patapsco State Park, this entrance does not have a fee. So feel free to donate or buy something from the park another day. This is a moderately difficult set of paths with elevation and off camber paths. Hikers, trail runners and plenty of mountain bikes.
If the parking lot is full, move over to the park n ride at 195 and walk over. There is also a bus that goes downtown that stops here, so if you are in the city, check the schedule and you won't even have to drive here.
There are no restrooms within a mile of this trail head, you will need to get to the bottom of soapstone and do a water crossing to get to a restroom.
Do not speed on Rolling rd, the speed limit is 30.
If you are into foraging, there are paw-paw trees here, sometime you can get lucky during the one weekend they are ripe.
i love this trail. it’s a bit overgrown and difficult to follow; however, it’s a wonderful place to get lost in!!! quite beautiful! 😍
Soapstone is a short easy trail up one side of a mountain and back down. There are a lot of trails in this section and lots of hills to hike on. All the rain has some trails closed and it can definitely be muddy but as long as you dress appropriately and wear the right shoes you should be okay.
If you can't find parking just keep going up the hill, there are smaller lots
Always enjoy Patapsco, but trails can be confusing as well as overgrown. But I keep coming back because the views and hikes are so varied!
Be aware of lack of service for most of the trail (I did cascade falls and morning circle). Lots of parking. Well marked trails and moderately challenging.
The trail is moderately challenging but well-marked, and we just followed the purple blazes. It tends to be a little muddy at times and narrow in places, but that's nature, and it's to be expected. Despite plenty of people parked outside of it, we didn’t run into nearly as many people as you’d think, except for a few mountain bikers. The trail view was stunning, with verdant trees, melodious birdsongs, the gentle murmur of a Patapsco River, and a sun-drenched pathway. We crossed bridges and boards over running water and saw wildlife, making it an enjoyable stroll on a rustic trail.

Their chicken teriyaki was awesome. It was so good I had to return the next day for lunch. If I lived in the area, I would have to come here daily. The staff was awesome, and the service was super fast. Highly recommend you give them a try.
The gate opens at least 20 minutes to 9am. Come early to get in front of the line. Entry is $3 per person.
However, I've seen bikers go in as early as 8am. Guess if you bike free entry and you don't pay? Haha
If you go early, be prepared for bikers
1st time there, music was good and at a level that I can hear myself think. Jen, the barmaid made me a delicious drink called the liquid marijuana. I ordered a BLT sandwich with fries, it was nice and simple. Then I got a long island and that was eve
