On our third trip to the Big Island we were finally able to visit this amazing gem of Island history. To read and hear about the families-those who survived and those who did not, gave one a glimpse of the impact of that tsunami!! Very interesting and we will definitely come back again!!
I LOVE museums, and have been to many, from NYC to Hawaii. This is one of the best. Small but packed with information presented in very attractive displays, many interactive. There is a special children’s area and a docent who I could have listened to for hours. A must see!!!
Super informative museum about tsunamis. The best part was the video interviews of survivors.
It was a great museum. I learned so much.Ethan and Nathan were fabulous and extremely informative. So glad they were open on a Sunday. Thank you.
A lot of reading - but I came away with a profound appreciation for the potential danger people can be in - we all have to fight complacency in our daily lives, and sometime there may be a 15 minute warning time, but even as visitors/tourists - we should be aware of where we are; it absolutely could save your and your families lives.
This museum offered some great information about natural disasters. Although it is relatively small, it has a expansive collection of photos and personal accounts of survival during catastrophe. I also enjoyed the movie they offered in their vault room (the museum used to be a bank). My visit to this museum genuinely provided me with a troves of new information.
Great place to learn about history of tsunami hazards in Hawaii. Family and kid friendly. Easily accessible in bayfront in Hilo. You name the period, Hawaii has been impacted and will be impacted again.
Small museum. Lots of information. Even if it's a self-guided tour, volunteers are there to answer any questions you might have on tsunamis, and more specifically on those that hit Hilo in the past. Very interesting museum with great staff. Thanks.
