Otay Open Space Preserve - National reserve in Dulzura - 2155 Otay Lakes Road, USA

If you are up for a little adventure take the route outside of Pio Pico thousand trails campground. The road is narrow and rough but you can’t beat the views. We saw several deer and a coyote. Don’t try this route with anything lower than a small suv.

It is a nice place to go off-roading and you gonna have a perfect view of Mexico. Basically you feel like you are in Mexico. Its safe and you feel like you off roading a little bit. There are some area you can do hard off roading ,but there is a sign that showed its illegal. You gonna see some patrol( border police car) and there is no reason to be worry about it.

I am enjoying exploring the Otay County Open Spaces. From meandering single track trails that would thrill your parents with beautiful vistas of San Diego and Mexico to advanced 4X4 goat trails that could require a change of underwear and body work on your rig. This is also heavily travelled by the Border Patrol so show them respect while they do their job. Excellent raptor and other wildlife watching opportunities. Bring water, food, recovery equipment, common sense and secondary communication - CB, GMRS, HAM because cell service is spotty near the border.

Its a good local truck trail. The side trail can go to intermediate to hard levels but the main trail is easy level.

I like is is very clean and quiet I really enjoy my camping time there

Beautiful wilderness area in san diegos back yard

We camped at Pio Pico Preserve, part of the Thousand Trails campgrounds. Super clean bathrooms and showers. It was close to the things we wanted to see and do in San Diego, but we were unhappy with quite a few things there. 1) check in was a hassle. 2) not all sites have electricity, water, and sewer. 3) there's a complicated process to get a full hook up site. 4) lots of litter. 5) quite a few things seemed to be repaired - laundry machines, electrical boxes, etc. 6) not very well marked sites. 7) dog poop - not everywhere, but enough to just watch your step. Needless to say, we'll stay somewhere else

As it says, just an open space. Plenty to explore. Abandoned mines, hiking and off road trails. Lots of space for recreational shooting. Just mind yourself and surrounding areas. This place is heavy with illegal immigrant activity.
