The food here is truly a treat. Highly recommend the lengua taco, and the lamb shank barbacoa was amazingly tender. Recommend coming as a group and sharing so you can try more of these flavors. Can't wait to be back!

The food was very flavorful. I was surprised they only give you one corn tortilla with the taco. It has lots of meat and is enough to make two tacos. The Margarita was tasty. I like the fact that is comes in a short glass and not diluted down with Margarita mix. CS was phenomenal. Our server was very knowledgeable with the menu. Great environment. Make reservations. I found a hidden gem not very far from home, reasonably priced with great food! It's a win win 🙂

First of all, I need to say that this place has the best tortillas I have had anywhere so far! After I felt that, I checked on their website and apparently Nixta has been trying to provide a more authentic tortilla experience. I can say for a fact that it is working. Simply amazing. I think the highlight is definitely the tacos, and I enjoyed every taco that I have had! Lengua tacos are my favorite anywhere, and I felt like Oro by Nixta delivered just that, with lots of beef tongue included along with salsa de chile de arbol, cured onion, and cilantro, very classic and very tasty. Each taco had its unique flavor because of the ingredients, and some of the ingredients were super appealing. For example, cactus pico was included in the barbacoa tacos; black beans refried style were included in the bok choy tacos; peach pico was included in the pescado tacos; avocado mousse in the camote tacos, and more. I enjoyed every taco they had and I am certain I will order more when I revisit. My partner and I also had the quesadilla de flor de calabaza and the chochoyote. They were both solid dishes as well. I wouldn't say they wowed me as much as the tacos, but they were still very tasty! Now I want to take a bit of time to talk about the dessert. We ordered all 4 kinds available. The tres leches is a must have, especially as the cream is poured on the top, the sweetness really gets absorbed into the sponge cake. Then the flan de mamey is also amazing, with a custard that went perfectly with the pixtle ice cream. The mole feels like a gigantic date (fruit) with the pasilla chile having the date texture outside and the dark chocolate inside. Finally, the sondae is what has fundamentally challenged my perceptions of desserts. The ice cream tastes like fruit and tequila, and upon initial tastes one may not like it or get used it, but to have it taste so good together with the hibiscus tostada, which is hard-shelled, I feel like I am rethinking what a dessert should be like, and the sondae definitely pushes that boundary and has successfully convinced me that this way really works. Strongly recommend to anyone who wants an experience with innovative Mexican cuisine and with the best tortillas one can find. I am so happy to have visited here finally, as I have been meaning to do so after learning that Nixta was opening up a dine in spot!

We were so pleased to meet chefs Gustavo and Kate Romero and try their top-notch, new Twin Cities Mexican restaurant. We are impressed with how excellent the food is, and the complexity, deliciousness, and versatility of the heirloom corn that they grind themselves is exquisite tasting. Romero's deep passion to showcase their culture through creative dishes comes through in a personal way. It was very pleasing to try their selection of corn varieties. We can never make our Mexican meals at home this good; one cannot purchase such fresh and unique corn varieties on our grocery store shelves. Their CHIPS AND DIPS (VV) sikil p'aak, salsas, and tostada is a must-try. It came with three sauces, each one was VERY good! I was pleased with my Chile Relleno; it has marvelous blends of chile guero, seafood filling, and guajillo-seaweed flavors. Next time, I’ll try a different dish to replace the cauliflower as the mole was a bit spicy. The way that they know how to cook with it is “gold.” We were pleasantly stunned by the diverse presentation and flavor profiles on the menu. Their heirloom varieties are so, much better than the pale yellow corn most of us are more familiar with. I didn’t expect to like the rice beverage horchata so much – I’ll definitely order it again and again. The locally- and Indigenous-sourced wild rice used tastes refreshing and leaves for feeling good/healthy for a good while. It has a fun toasty, chocolaty, rich flavor. Also, I recommend the El Jefe Negroni cocktail – they also kindly cut the alcohol for me (I’m happy to pay full price.) Each of our appetizer entrees was a standout dish, especially the Aguachile Rojo. It’s an amazing burst of fresh summer flavors with peeled tomatoes and bright watermelon balls nestled in a piquant, just-perfect-spicy, bright sauce. Delicious, large shrimp floated in the sauce and were accompanied by their delightful crunchy tostadas. The tacos are exceptional and modestly priced from $6-7; if anything, it's underpriced for the unique flavor. They may be able to keep prices reasonable because while the interior décor is lovely, it is not extravagant like some similar palaces to eat Mexican food. You have to taste their in-house-ground masa to believe how incredibly good they are! The atmosphere is pleasant and jovial, with a nice entre area if you are waiting for other table guests to join you. We loved the deep luxurious, blue-colored walls; the front reception murals and the bathroom walls are an experience to see – very creative and beautiful. Gustavo told us that he is eager for the patio to open and the bar area (additional building) to accommodate more people with expanded space. It was fun to try their dessert. We enjoyed it so much - we are already planning a trip back with family and to bring another group of friends! On a return visit, I tried Molotes, which was new on the menu - it is now my new favorite! The staff knew the ingredients and menu options and were very kind to explain them to us. Mexican food that is this authentic is hard to find. Both their sweet and savory entrees use corn in a tasty fashion. I highly recommend this place!!!

An absolutely phenomenal dining experience at Oro! The food was prepared so authentically and tasted incredible! On top of this the wait staff are extremely friendly and have excellent recommendations to make for the best food to order if you're unsure! Highly recommend checking this place out for some of the best authentic Mexican cuisine in the Twin Cities!

Great experience all around! Our group loved the carnitas taco the most followed by the veggie ceviche, steak tartare, and the tres leche dessert. I would avoid the fried fish taco… we all agreed that it wasn’t tasty and didn’t fit on the menu. The service was efficient. Definitely recommend to go family style. Our group ordered 10 plates (4 being tacos) and it was perfect for a hungry group

I could eat the food here everyday, all day and feel good about it. What I ordered was absolutely delicious, full of fresh vegetables and had the right proportions. Great vegetarian options. I got the tacos and a butternut squash dish, they were flavorful and healthy! Definitely recommend.

If you have heard about the food in Oaxaca Mexico but have not had a chance to go there, Oro by Nixta will give you a very authentic representation of the flavors and textures that you find in the very best restaurants. Where else in Minnesota can you find out what a Tlayuda is? I had the Mezcalita cocktail which was fabulous. We had the mushroom ceviche (= ceviche de hongos), the Aguachile Rojo, Esquites, Tamal de Jabali, Panza de Puerco, a Flan and a Horchata. A fabulous meal for four people, highly recommended!
