We visit this nice little restaurant in Norwich once a year while visiting family. This year around the middle of December was not welcoming and was not as wonderful as in the past. We were a party of seven for breakfast. The hostess refused to seat the first two people because our entire party wasn't there yet. Normally, I can completely understand that especially when you're busy. However there were three other booths taken. Everything else was empty. So do not arrive and expect to be seated regardless of how many people are in the restaurant if your whole party is not there. We found the hostess just to be not very friendly. Once we were seated, our server was amazing and the food was incredible! The restaurant is decorated rather cute and my reason for the two star and atmosphere was that the womens bathrooms was disgusting. I do not think the toilet had been cleaned in 6 months. It's very old and not updated and just not clean . The restaurant itself just felt dirty. We always enjoy our last breakfast at this location but was a little discouraged this time. Even our family that lives there said that they probably wouldn't be back. Hopefully this is a one-time thing, however, I will say it again, the food was incredible!
Place was great! I was a little nervous because I’m from the south and CT just makes scrambled eggs different but they’re perfect here 😭 bringing my family back here again. This is the closest I can get to southern breakfast! I was shocked when I saw biscuits and grits on the menu lol
What a find! Picked this gem off Google maps. The staff was so nice. And the food was so good. I got the TRAVIS’ TASTER Travis doesn’t like eggs, but he likes his sweets and sandwiches. When he’s in town, he likes to have a sausage and cheese sandwich on an English muffin with home fries and a short stack of Cinnamon Crisp. Then he has a large juice instead of coffee. The cinnamon crisp was so good! And the potatoes were perfect. My cousin got an omelette... Her plate was full of sunshine. I would def come back. I can see why it's a local favorite.
Stopped here for lunch with my family. All the food was super fresh and delicious. The bathroom wasn't very clean and could use some updating. But the staff was friendly and the atmosphere was very relaxed and welcoming. Will definitely return!
Best breakfast in New London. Great Omelettes and great Chicken Fried Steak. Staff is very friendly and the food comes out fast. Every is made from scratch. 8/17/2023-Drove to Connecticut again this year and had to come back for the chicken fried steak. Ate breakfast on Tuesday, and ordered 2 "Chicken fried steaks" to take home to NY this morning, but when we got home we got a regular steak and eggs breakfast. I'm sure it's very good, but we come there especially for the Chicken fried steak ( which you can't find on LI. And I was VERY disappointed when I got home. I told "Jared M" over the phone how much we love the Chicken fried steak and how we come there only for that. I must have said Chicken fried steak 4 times over the phone. He should pay more attention when taking orders. I still love "Old Tymes" and will be back next time I'm in Connecticut.
Stopped here for lunch before going to the casino. This is a Breakfast or Lunch restaurant with a Rustic atmosphere. No draft beer available, only bottled. I had the Taco Salad, large portion, tortilla shell was cooked perfectly. I did think the Taco meat could have used a little more seasoning. My wife had the Cobb Salad, large portion with large pieces of bacon. Would have gotten dessert but the only choice available was Strawberry Shortcake. I would stop here again for breakfast or lunch. There is plenty of parking.
Cute place, friendly staff, blah food. I’ll start with the good food - the cinnamon crisps and buttermilk biscuits are very good. The chicken fried steak was fatty and rubbery. The ‘best sausage gravy’ that has 2 lbs of sausage per gallon of gravy was too chunky and flavorless for me. The home fries were blah, tons of little pieces, not much flavor. So disappointing. And didn’t offer real maple syrup.
I LOVED Old Tymes in the 90s. Every time I visit “home” I try and make it a habit to visit old Tymes and reminisce about the high school days… the past year though each time I visit I’m more and more disappointed. This past visit was it. Our booth was filled with stains in the fabric. Service took too long. Food was just gross this time. My chicken fried steak was tough as leather, the sausage gravy was nasty, hash browns were like soggy and mushy. My eggs were fine and my English muffin was actually great. Overall though management needs to really do a revamp cause this place is nothing like it used to be like back in 94’. It was the place to be back then! I however won’t be visiting the next time I visit “home”. Good luck to you.

This summer I had an internship over 1000 miles away from home and I spent my first night in CT eating here as well as my last. It was bittersweet knowing it would be awhile before I ate there again. The food is amazing and the staff is lovely! My fa
It's pretty obvious that when you go to a restaurant for Italian food and it's owned by people who live in the Mediterranean region, the food is going to be spectacular. It never fails. Montenegrans, Albanians, Italians, Greeks...what cooks! They rea
