Old Marina Inn - Featured Reviews (113)
Positive: Very clean, big room. While it's an older property, they do a good job of maintaining it. Very friendly staff, too. The bathroom shows some age, but it was clean, too. Negative: I was back solo in my hometown for a quick overnight visit and some business. I'd driven by the Old Marina Inn thousands of times, often wondering how it was to stay there. While I'm sure my wife prefers a newer chain hotel, this was perfect for just me. Negative: ""
I give this place 4 stars because it doesn't have all the frills of a fancy hotel, but it is QUIET, it has always been SAFE and SECURE for us. You can park right outside your room and parking is free. The facility is only 1 story tall so nobody is stomping around overhead. The rooms have a fridge, microwave with turntable. Bathrooms are small but have plenty of hot water that arrives quickly when you turn on the faucet or the shower. TV is adequate, the furnishings are adequate with a 3pc dinette in our king bed room; and a long dresser to set out bags on. We have stayed here many times and been pleased just the same as on our most recent stay in May 2023. One thing that is especially nice is the LOCATION and ease of access to Hwy 1 when traveling southbound towards Monterey or going north towards Santa Cruz. Close to several fast food restaurants and we have safely walked down to the corner of Reservation Road, to Grocery Outlet. The liquor store just across the parking lot is nice for snacks and sandwiches, too. If you want to drive out to the Marina State Beach, its just at the west end of Reservation Road with a nice parking area, picnic tables and restrooms. Happy trails and safe travels, ya'll!
The only reason I give 4 stars is because we got 1 washcloth and had a king size bed (2 adults, no kids, no pets). But I always bring a few extra washcloths from home when I travel. Room was clean, cost is better than the franchise hotels. I like being able to park right outside my room, and have free parking and also no "resort fee"!!! We have stayed here in years past and hope the place is still in business when we come back to the area in a few years.
Stayed here on our way back from a camping trip. The rooms were nice and large and we got a king sized bed. The sheets were crisp and obviously freshly cleaned. The employees were very kind and very straightforward. The shower was pretty old fashioned, a little tile room with a glass door and no light. But the water still got hot so I can't complain. The only issue was that people were hanging out in the parking lot at night, and there was broken glass all behind our car when we went to leave in the morning.
This is a genuine "Mom and Pop" owned property, they take great pride in their facility. Staff is very pleasant and friendly. Despite a nearby busy liquor store, a casino and bar with dancing around the corner; the neighborhood is very quiet. We heard no sirens, screaming late at night, nor loud music. Now, the drapes in your room do not match the bedspread and the carpet is an older style but there are NO stains on the carpet. The bedside lamps have been updated and have an electrical outlet in the base for charging your electronics. The bathroom is small-- but the shower tile/grout has no mold. They must have in-line hot water heaters--shower gets hot real fast! I think because this facility was originally built to serve families visiting old Fort Ord, they used to have more than 1 bed in the rooms. Nowadays, we had only a queen bed, very comfortable. Much 'elbow' room, with a table and 2 chairs, desk has phone and coffee maker, next to fridge/microwave. WE WILL STAY HERE AGAIN.
Positive: The low key easy access - from the hwy - Negative: ""
The room was very spacious, clean and cozy and the TV had lots of channel selection. There was a coffee pot and fixings for coffee provided, the blankets were warm, the pillows were big and fluffy. It was a really nice stay.
Staying at the Old Marina Inn is kind of like stepping back in time to the 1960s or so, during the age of mom and pop motels. The motel is indeed family run and its furnishings and style reflects the '60s as well. But not to worry, I found our room to be spacious (perhaps even huge), clean, and functional. And because there's only one story, the room was very quiet.
Other aspects of the room were good as well. The bathroom was small, again circa 1967 I think, but in very good condition. The TV was HD and had a great variety of channels with a functioning guide. And the bed was very comfortable as well.
The motel is about 20-30 minutes from the Monterrey Bay Aquarium, and is located near a number of places to get food like Starbucks and Round Table Pizza. The family managing the motel were pleasant and seem to take pride in their establishment. While $130 (the motel's going rate) is perhaps not a great bargain given the lack of amenities like a pool or a free breakfast, I do believe it to be reasonable for the area. The Inn will certainly be on my radar the next time I visit Monterrey Bay.
We went on Saturday, December 16, 2023. A rare opportunity and a new way to enjoy the coastal views! We saw a local news story and checked it out because locals usually don't do tourist stuff. Electric assist pedaling was super easy and staff very n
