Their poke bowls look pretty, but they're heavy on veggies and rice and light on fish. We got a couple of spicy crunchy ahi bowls, one with brown rice. Ohana relies on jalapeno and Sriracha mayo for the spice in the name. The undressed ahi was cut into tiny pieces. It was fresh, but I was expecting it to be in some kind of spicy dressing. Should have asked I guess. Not horrible, just rather bland and not a tremendous value. Typical fast food interior in the restaurant. Very friendly staff.
I apologize for the novel. I’ve worked in service, sales, and production. Never worked in food, but I hear it’s hard. Which is why I’m hesitant to write a review. In the end, I’m just a customer and what matters is the experience I have with your product.
The unfortunate situation, I am about to talk about, is consistency. The bad kind. My wife and I love your food. Poké is delicious and your people deliver a good product at competitive prices. The issue is, that consistently we don’t get what we pay for. You have these beautiful pictures of full clear bowls of Poké online when instead we receive partially filled bowls of food. Now I could just be a cranky customer, but this just feels like a product that doesn’t deliver what’s been promised/advertised.
For several months we’ve ordered a couple bowls a week and received bowls with empty pockets. Or bowls that are half filled with rice, and then the additives are arbitrarily sprinkled on top. If you guys intend to stiff people their proteins at least fill the bowl with rice. I’d settle for cheap filler over quantity of vegetables or proteins. (See attached photos)
This experience is not entirely consistent. As ordering earlier in the day. Like 3-4pm usually yields a full bowl. Ordering after 5pm however usually results with the unfortunate experience above. Time of day shouldn’t matter. I would expect that tends to leave the dinner crowd unsatisfied.
As customers we actually don’t know what we are supposed to receive in quantity. Do your people just eyeball it? Do you measure by weight? Scoops?
On top of this, some genius just removed the option to double/triple up on protein choices when ordering online. So if you only want avocado, or tuna as your protein you can’t do that anymore.
Past experiences would suggest this is a corporate or management decision. As I can’t imagine a reason for your counter chefs cutting short on product without someone above them telling them to do so. Whether that’s to meet order volume or save money.
Now I’m not saying that your teams, management staff, or higher administrative folks are doing any of this intentionally. Understand this is more a feedback post. Clarification would help myself and others when purchasing from you in the future.
Thanks for your time
Always a go-to for lunch! I love being able to order online and just pick up at the front door. They are usually pretty fast with the online orders which is great. The food is fresh and yummy.
THIS PLACE ROCKS! I have found my new favorite restaurant in Newburyport. I’m surprised not more people dine in considering how beautiful the inside is. The staff here are awesome, very friendly. The Poke bowls are fresh and tasty, I recommend the Spicy Crunchy. Always clean & cool!! I built my own bowl
Amazing! this is a place I want to visit again. Friendly service and lovely decor! I ordered the soy joy bowl with sushi rice, it was delicious. The bowl was full of fresh ingredients that go well together. You can have fun and make your own bowl, there are plenty of options to choose from!
Awesome job at providing compostable bowls and forks!
I would do anythinggggg to have this location and Exeter closer to me!!! Anytime I’m in the area, I always stop here for lunch and you’re one of my favorite local businesses. 45 minutes or not, both locations, I’ll commit to Ohana!!
The guy we talked to on the phone was so nice and kind. He really made this experience amazing. I wish I got his name. Thank you to whoever it was!!
Had a poke bowl here last week and it might be a contender for the best in Newburyport. The portions were generous but not overkill and the fish was really fresh and tasty. Lots of bowl options or create your own with a variety of ingredients. Cute, clean atmosphere and friendly staff as well. Will definitely be getting back there soon!
