Oglebay Resort - Resort hotel in Wheeling - 465 Lodge Dr, USA

I can't say too much about it because I didn't stay there. I was only there for a wedding. I don't know who cooked the food but I do know the bride and groom picked it and it wasn't that good. I had the breaded chicken breast and when it came out it was not hot. More like room temperature. The place was clean and spacious. The workers were nice at least the ones I had contact with. But the doorman were especially nice. That's about all I can say about it.

Family of 10 rented two cabins for three nights , ate at all the food spots, hiked and walked trails and paths, participated in most of the amenities for kids and adults, and golfed twice at two of the courses. So, we had a very good sample of what the huge park-like Oglebay with beautiful vistas has to offer for reasonable and modest pricing. I think this is a great regional resort for the American family, or for a couple or friends looking for a golf vacation. Modest Accommodations in our rustic cabin were comfortable, clean and well-designed, offering space, plenty of hot water and good air conditioning. 10 minute walk to the Lodge and lake activities. You will want to drive a few minutes to get to other activities. You can walk or drive to the Garden Bistro for a bit more upscale food and hilltop terrace dining. ||My service expectations were exceeded by the cheerful and helpful staff at every single place in the resort and without exception. Staff was efficient and attentive, welcoming and obviously pleased to serve guests. Service was on par with what I expect at luxury properties. ||One item of disappointment: too many deer are on the property; most grassy areas are highly soiled. One pair of sneakers were too dirty to save. Note to Management: cull the herd. ||I e

We stayed in the newer remodeled rooms on the West wing, which I highly recommend. We traveled with another family who had an older room, and there is really no comparison other than the older room had a balcony and 2 robes were provided! The grounds were well manicured with beautiful flowers everywhere. Many things we wanted to do were a car (or trolly) ride away which required a lot more planning. We enjoyed the pickle ball courts, the rock wall, the obstacle course, swan boats, outdoor pool, and the zoo which were all great. The putt putt course could use some updating. The Good Zoo was fantastic, perfect size to not take up the entire afternoon. The Skyline Restaurant was really good, all 8 of us ate there twice. 2 of us got fish and chips and were disappointed in that meal- very thin slices of fish that were over cooked. The bacon wrapped meatloaf, pizza, wings, French onion soup and the bolognese dish were all fantastic. I highly recommend this resort, especially if you have children!

Took my son for his birthday and test if staying at a hotel since it was only 45 drive. We arrive early they did let us check in. I paid for a pack and play said they had one and would bring it to the room. We went to the outdoor pool which is outdated came back to the room and still no pack n play. I call and text saying we need one same response it will be there. We do to dinner and swim indoor pool. It's now my son's bed time they still don't have it. I call they said they delivered to the wrong room and are out. When I requested to talk to a supervisor they said they don't have one and we are out of luck. My son is only 12 months so unsafe to sleep in the bed. We had to pack our stuff up and leave at the night so I could safely get him to bed. We won't be returning. On top of that experience when we opened the door to outside there was dog or some animals crap everywhere and you can tell you was old. The room had candy wrapper under the bed ants. The door stopper fell off that my son found. DO NOT recommend

This is located in a very scenic place. Other than that, the stay wasn't great. We stayed in the lodge where the rooms were small. There were no dressers, so we had no place to put our clothes. There was no counter space in the bathroom, so no place for toiletries. The TV was small. The worst part was the cleaning crew started cleaning rooms around 7am. They were so noisy and you can hear them slamming doors all morning. Golf was good on the 3 courses, but everything was on a hill, so be prepared.

We went for a multi-generational stay to connect with family in Ohio. The kids really enjoyed the resort, but I wouldn’t return. The grounds weren’t particularly nice - there are deer everywhere and their poop too! The resort should be culling the deer so it’s safe to walk around more. ||You need a car to get around. There are few places you can really walk due to distance and the proliferation of deer (and poop everywhere). ||We stayed in the cottages, which were more rustic than expected. Sleeping in them was fine, but they weren’t somewhere you’d want to spend a lot of time in. ||The outdoor pool is very nice, as is the golf course. The breakfasts at Hickman are very good, as is lunch at the garden cafe and dinner at the Mexican restaurant.

My husband, daughter and I stayed one night at the lodge. We were delighted with our huge rooms! They were clean, perfectly appointed and comfortable. We had a nice living space and fireplace. The bathroom was so spacious! We had a great brunch at the restaurant. We were only sorry we didn't have much time there because of a family occasion. We all talked about coming back to enjoy the park and the lodge with the rest of our family for a long weekend.

I would have said 5 stars if the pool was closer to the resort. Be careful with the deer population because they will follow you into your room! We were traveling with our Frenchie and Oglebay was the perfect spot for a puppy/family trip. The room was perfect with one door into the resort and another door to take the pup outside for his business. They are renovating right now but it really wasn't a hindrance. The only thing it did was combine a few of the restaurants into one location. The food at the golf course and at the resort was really awesome. I was totally shocked with that. There were many families there as well that looked to be having as much fun as we were. We even had the chance to enjoy a free concert in the park. That just made the stay that much more fun. I will definitely be returning and if you get the chance to visit, I would strongly suggest that you do.
