Octagon House Retreat Bed and Breakfast - Featured Reviews (4)
My husband and I just stayed here and we got in on a fluke. There was a cancellation. What luck! We had a wonderful time! We got in late, so we missed the appetizers, but Penny (the proprietor) had a glass of wine waiting for us when we got there. We stayed in John's room. It was absolutely beautiful. Penny told us such wonderful stories about the life of the house and the people that originally owned it. It made the stay that much more special. We had the most delicious breakfast the next morning out on the porch. Penny made 3 different kinds of homemade juice, a fruit plate for each of us, wonderful eggs/sausage/puff pastry and delicious homemade caramel rolls. There were 4 other couples staying there, and each room/bathroom was so self-contained that we didn't even realize anyone else was in the place until we came down for breakfast.||If you ever get a chance to stay here, do it! Red Wing is a wonderful town - lots to see. And, the Octagon House and Penny are the best!
You would be hard pressed to find a B&B with a more friendly and wonderful hostess. Penny maintains a beautiful Victorian home, cooks the most memorable breakfasts you'll ever have, and generally makes you feel at home in the adorable town of Red Wing.||I've stayed here many times, and I'm sure I will be back. I cannot say enough good things or recommend it highly enough. You will not be disappointed if you go!|
My wife and I have been to many B & B's, but this was by far the best experience we have ever had. From hospitality and history to the decor, awesome appetizers that greet you at the door and the mouth-watering breakfast that awaits you in the morning.||Penny's personality and sense of humor only adds to the fun! We learned so much about Red Wing and heard some fascinating stories of her travels. ||The house is decorated masterfully and is truly a must see! It is the missing piece to the puzzle if you plan to stay in Red Wing! ||It is highly recommended and you will leave with great memories and a great new friend!||Loved IT!||Steve & Tara|
Penny is a most gracious hostess, and her poochie pal B.J. is a darling. Upon our arrival, we were greeted with wine and treats on the screen porch, just the norm for Sat. nights at the Octagon House! We laughed and talked with the other guests for a couple hours, and then had a lovely, private stay until breakfast the next morning, when we rejoined the group for a delicious meal. Penny shared much about the local history, and the importance of the house and family who once lived there. Our room was comfortable, and we really enjoyed our stay. Great location to walk around downtown, too.|
This was the second time that we have stayed at the Octagon House in Red Wing, and for sure not the last. The atmosphere is very charming and elegant. Delicate fabric covers the walls of this Victorian style B&B. A beautiful view of Red Wing, MN from the rooftop, which you will not find anywhere else nor forget. The breakfast served is so delicious you will not want to leave. Everything about this place is worth exploring. We cannot wait to go back!|
We had the most lovely time at the Octagon House in Red Wing. Penny, the proprietor, was a delight! The décor is lovely, the hors d'oeuvres were delectable, the rooms were lavish and Penny's breakfasts were outstanding. We will definitely return to this charming home-away-from-home.|
We love this property and we love Penny. We always spend some time catching up and telling stories in her comfortable 'lounge' room, drinking wine and eating a few of her great snacks. Penny has the ABSOLUTELY best breakfasts. One of the friends we came there with has a nut allergy and Penny went out of her way to make sure they food was served special for our friend so she would not have any reactions. ||Staying at Lawther is like staying with the 'Cool Mom'!!!||:]||The Hunters, Champlin MN|
My husband and I stayed at The Octagon House 2/20/05. It was beautiful. We stayed in the Sisters' Suite. Very nice. Everything was clean. The bed was very comfortable. Penny, the innkeeper, is a doll. She was so friendly. We had hors d'oeuvres and a glass of wine when we arrived. She showed us around the house and told us the history. The cupola is cool. I'd love to return in the summer when you can go out onto the roof. The views are magnificent. Breakfast was very good. In the summer you can have breakfast on the porch. There were two other couples staying there and we had a great conversation. I can't forget to mention B.J. He's Penny's dog, the cutest little thing. He was so much fun to play with. We would highly recommend a visit to The Octagon House. You won't be disappointed.|
We stayed at this lovely B&B for 3 nights during the 2023 holiday period while visiting family in Red Wing. From the moment we stepped into the Inn, everything was perfect - the owners Deb & Ron were extremely friendly and welcoming, their dogs Buddy
The Upper Quarry, the first stop on the trail leading up to Memorial Park, is a beautiful and interesting place. The geologist in the family will find plenty of sandstone to examine and study, the hiker will love the trails, and the bird watcher will

Came here for a late night snack after a wedding at the St. James and it was amaaaaazing! 10/10 recommend. Owned by a very sweet couple that was so welcoming. The guy told us he smokes all of the meats in house too. Next time you're in Red Wing, you
When we arrived at about 3pm, we had the place to ourselves. The staff were super friendly and the atmosphere was really cool. We had drinks and nachos. Prices were good! They had my favorite MN THC beverages.
A really nice place. Nice little coffee shop. Quaint. Carpeting gives a nice warm feeling in November. Fun book exchange for the locals. This would be a great place to work remotely.
I recently went to see my first performance at the Seldom Theater in Red Wing! I went with some friends and we saw the B2wins! What a gem of a historic theater hidden in the quaint town of Red Wing! I feel like I was instantly transported into the pa
