Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. The views are stunning. The hike itself is moderate. It was a nice experience. For sure, I will be back again.

Great trailhead with a few free parking spaces although it's never super crowded. Trail itself is free but they have a donation box in front to support the trail maintenance efforts. Easy trail, well maintained, wide path and mostly stable with some bits of loose gravel in certain locations. Was able to do it slides/flip-flops without too much trouble although flat-soled athletic shoes would be a better choice. Out-and-back trail allows you to easily determine how much time the trail duration will take and impossible to get lost. Beautiful views of the town below, multiple wood peckers on the trees next to the trail.

Oat Hill Mine Trail is a 14.1 mile out and back trail in Calistoga that has amazing views of the valley and vineyards as well rock formations. We hiked to the three mile marker and back so six miles total and plan on going farther next time. This is a great trail for both hikers and experienced mountain bikers. The trail is dog friendly so if you want to bring your dog the only requirement is that all dogs are on leashes. There is a small parking lot at the start of the trail and plenty of parking along the side of the road. It's good to know that there is not a bathroom at the start of the trail so plan accordingly. The trail is a slow and steady incline with mile markers along the way. There are benches along the way to stop and take in the natural beauty or have a picnic. Enjoy the hike! We were so happy we found this place and can't wait to come back! Some tips: 1.) There is not a lot of tree cover so bring a hat and sunscreen. 2.) There is a lot of loose gravel so wear hiking shoes if you have them. 3.) Bring a backpack with plenty of water. 4.) Consider bringing snacks if you plan on hiking farther on this trail so that you are prepared.

This trail was a good hike to go on because you can go as far or as little down the rocky road trail as you want. It’s an 8 mile out and back trail. We only went for 2.3 miles each way and the views were nice at certain points. With increased elevation there was more dead trees and shrubs that had been burned from previous fires.

This was an excellent, very dynamic and fairly challenging out and back hike. I think doing it in the summer would be pretty brutal as there is limited tree cover (due to a burn scar from previous fire(s)) but doing this in the winter, spring, or late fall would be great. We just went over the weekend (early feb after some rains) and were pleased with all the lush grass and variety of wildflowers already popping up. There are spectacular views, especially at the top. Wear sturdy hiking shoes/boots and the terrain is rocky and there are some slides. Bring water. It's straight up and back, ~8.5 miles total.

A good trail to stretch the legs. Pretty much start heading up hill right from the parking area which has limited space for maybe 8 cars but worth the stop. Great views of the valley with signs of a previous fire. We like the hike!

Love bike guiding here given the views and the technical challenges

Oat Hill Mine Trail is an okay trail in Calistoga. It is better for hiking than mountain biking. The trail is basically a narrow fire road which steadily ascends the hills to higher elevations with a few viewspoints along the way. The trail is covered in loose rocks after the first half mile. I biked up about two miles before deciding to turn around. The views are best up to about 1.5 miles from the trail head. After the first mile marker the forest is burnt and the burnt trees continue all the way up to the top I believe. Best to visit in Spring, but a majority of the four mile or so trail to the top is burnt.
