We had the misfortune of purchasing a house that was pre-inspected by North Starr Inspections. This was during the time when everything was flying off the market in less than a week so we waived inspection because the pre-inspection report didn’t have any major concerns. Now that we’re 6 months into our home, here’s all the things that North Starr missed:
- Rat infestation in the attic. As in rat poop EVERYWHERE. The pictures from the attic were carefully curated so no rat poop would be visible. This was a $13,000 fix.
- All toilets leaking (including through the ceiling in the garage that eventually required water remediation). About $2,000 for all 3 toilets to repair.
- The report noted only a few outlets weren’t grounded, which were replaced by the seller. After a few months, I’ve since found 12 outlets that didn’t have proper grounding. Not a great thing when you have a curious toddler running around, but at least we had covers on most of them.
Do yourself a favor and 1) always get your own inspection report and 2) don’t use North Starr for that inspection
