NARM is okay, but I have been to better railroad museums. The volunteer staff is friendly, but not very knowledgeable about the railroad history. The pumpkin ride was in a very nice, clean, cool old coach, but the windows on my side were opaque and I couldn't see clearly. The pumpkin ride was only a little over 1.6 miles each way. Overall, the museum and excursions are worth doing because the excursions are the only funds that keep the museum operating. Just understand that before you go.
We went for the Mother's Day train ride and overall had a really nice time. The train is antique, and it's so impressive that it still runs! It's not an exhilarating ride but a nice calm stroll among the trees. My only complaint was that there were a lot of screaming kids on our car, but that's no fault of the museum. I will definitely be coming back for the nighttime Christmas ride and try to get the private seating offered on that one. It's definitely a fun and affordable idea for the family!
We did a family train ride with 5 kids and 5 adults and it was fun!
This museum is such a cute and quaint place. We did the Santa train ride and my daughter loved it. The train itself is very old and outdated but that is to be expected as it’s almost 80 years old. Every worker we encountered was incredibly nice and interactive with the guests.
We went for the fall color special. Most of the leaves were still green, but the experience was still great. It cost $15 per person for this package. They begin to board you onto the train 15 mins before your departure time. The train only goes about 7-9 miles per hour so nothing too fast. It was definitely a chance to go back in time. If you have never been on a train I highly recommend this for your first time experience. It is also a great history lesson for kids. They have a ramp you walk up for easy boarding of all ages. Each area on the train car has four seats total that face each other making a square. All aboard!!!!!
It is a smooth ride, only 15 mph. I was in car 6090, air-conditioned and nice upholstery. The conductor walks through each car stamping your tickets, he gave me a choice of three accents for him to use so I told him German. He immediately sounded German and did the whole car in that accent, all the people that work there are volunteers or salaried are very nice.
If you're coming by you have to do the train ride! There isn't a ton of stuff to do outside of that so you'll really be missing out. There *is* air conditioning in most of the train cars so even when it's miserably hot out you can still be comfortable. There are also open air cars so you can enjoy the breeze.
Lovely ride. Super cool Conductor. Wish the train was more restored. It's vintage but it could be more maintained. I think if they ask for help with this...there would be tons of volunteers- both in cash n service.
