This great location owned by Jonathan Perry for 40 years should be on your list to check out for future performances by a variety of musical and theatrical acts. We had a great night using it as a Venue for a fundraiser for the RI Folk Festival. I was pleasantly surprised once we entered this establishment and amazed that I hadn't been better educated in the past to its creative activities and events.
I have been here at least 5 times and have never had a bad experience. The dinner is buffet style. I bet you’re thinking “gross, buffet food is lousy!” Wrong! The food tastes like home cooking and is quite delightful. The play is hit or miss (nothing on the Playhouse; just some scripts are terrible.) The acting tends to be good. The cabaret at the end is great- very funny and entertaining. The only potential downside (if you are uncomfortable with strangers) is that you are seated next to strangers in close vicinity. For me personally, that isn’t a problem. In fact, when I went last night, I had an incredible time socializing with the couples next to us. The staff (which in some cases are the actors in the play or cabaret show) are pleasant, warm and welcoming. Overall, if you’re looking for a fun date night activity and to be entertained, this place is for you!
We were in Rhode island for our 26th wedding anniversary this past New Year's Eve. Husband suggested Newport Playhouse. I had never been. He hadn't been in many years. Was a wonderful evening.. Food was top notch. All you can eat buffet. Wow! Excellent! The play was funny & they have talented actors. The cabaret was fun & added a nice touch. Would like to return when we go back in summer. I highly recommend it!
“Miracle” was a delightful show, with a hilarious and wonderful cabaret after the fact. The food was plentiful and good, especially for a buffet, and while the seats in the dining hall weren’t the easiest for an extended period of show-watching, we had an amazing time. Would happily return for another show- if perhaps with a jacket to sit on ;)
Great experience - highly recommend. Took my parents to a play and stayed for the Cabaret afterward. Acting was professional and the script truly laugh out loud funny. Performers at the Cabaret we're absolutely into what they were doing and made it fun for all. Lots of talent at this location. We will visit again👍
Happy to welcome New Year's Eve 2024 at The Newport Playhouse. An entertaining night filled with hospitable staff and a host owner that bent over backwards in making sure all guests had a wonderful time. From the buffet to the play to the Caberet afterwards, and midnight celebration, this community based theater show fit all the expectations of a fun night.
Came for dinner and play on New Year’s Eve. What a disappointment everywhere said to get there for 6pm. Imagine our surprise when we got here and were told not open to 7pm!! Very poor communication and we are not the only ones as we sit here with ten other cars waiting!! Can’t even go to bar for a drink and wait! Not a good start to the night… think of the income they could make if they at least had bar open. When we called for our tickets there was no mention of the late start.
The buffet had a lot of choices, the staff was pleasant and accommodating, the show was fantastic, "Is that you Norman?" and the cabaret was so much fun, diverse and full of talent. Would highly recommend.
