The hotel is Great! The beds and the pillows are very comfy. The room has a coffee machine that works well, and the bathroom is well appointed with a makeup mirror that lights up and is useable. |The gym is a full gym and very clean. There is a large pool that is also very nice and clean.||My only complaints are 1) All the people at the front desk have "sourpusses" No one smiles or is polite. Maybe they hate their jobs, because they sure are not pleasant. ||2) Also the food (besides the breakfast in the Executive Lounge) is horrible. Two nights I ate at the bar (since the restaurant was not open). The food was horrific. The garlic flatbread tasted like it came out of a freezer box. The next night I had a cold grilled cauliflower wrap that was inedible. The hotel needs a chef who can make meals from scratch and not from the freezer section of Stop and Shop. The breakfast in the lounge again, we fantastic. Have that chef make the food at night. She was fantastic.

We recently stayed 2 nights at the Marriott Newport - and we plan on returning. The location, room, service, and team - were all outstanding. We had early check-in - and our room was ready when we arrived. The courtesy and customer service by everyone we encountered was excellent. The location is perfect for walking to restaurants/shops - and we loved our room with a view of the harbor. I intend to book every visit to Newport at the Marriott. We loved it!

The hotel itself is beautiful. We didn't use many of the amenities. The staff was very nice and accommodating.||It's fairly well located, including next to the transportation center, with free shuttles in the summer. ||What was disappointing was the room itself. In the bathroom, the wallpaper was peeling off the wall. And from a convenience perspective, the biggest complaint was that there were no outlets on desks or nightstands. That meant you had to have the phone charger plugged in on the floor which would require you tripping over it pretty consistently. Somebody really needs to update these rooms pretty quickly. For the money they charge, I'm sure there are better options.

We stayed here when my husband chose this hotel to host a work meeting that he wanted to have in Newport. While we didn't have the best experience with the room (our mirror sparked when we wiped steam off of it, for instance), the location was amazing, and he heard nothing but excited feedback about how beautiful Newport was. Unfortunately, we will not be able to trust the safety of our guests' belongings to return here next time. The morning we were checking out, an hour before checkout, we were out of the room to load the car when housekeeping entered our room and removed personal belongings from our room, claiming to believe them to be trash. Even though the room was clearly still occupied and being loaded up, they took a bag including leftovers for the road, leftover and unopened alcohol, medicine for a personal health condition, general medicine (ginger chews, pain meds) road trip snacks (specific brands/types to not trigger said health condition), and miscellaneous other last minute packing items (totaling $180-200). When I re-entered, before I knew, the housekeeper told me quickly, "we found a bag but it was only leftover trash, so we threw it away". I was unsure, but I THOUGHT that that made sense, because I HAD ALSO left a bag of trash over next to the trash can (not with our belongings where the bag and tote had been). I just thought he was nervous about being discovered in the room by a guest. Upon finding the bag missing from the room, I thought my husband must have taken it and several other items while I was on my first trip, so I thanked the person and took the last two items from the room: my tote and a box of granola bars that HAD been in the bag but was now somehow on the counter. How weird, I thought, because why would my husband have taken the snacks OUT of the bag before loading it into the car? It turns out he did not. However, we were stressed with leaving so I just carried the granola bars and tote down and we left. 30 minutes later, we got to the mainland, and I attempted to take medicine for my stomach, which should have been in the bag. This is when we became sure that that bag was missing and called the hotel. The person we spoke to said he would check the maids' cart, because anything thrown away within the rooms would be there, and get back to us. When we finally heard back, he had not found our belongings on the maids' cart. He did not know where our belongings had gotten to. We expressed that this was very urgent, as we were about to start a long drive home and needed both my medicine and the snacks/food/belongings in that bag. He said he would offer us a discount on the room as an apology. We explained that, as it was a work trip, getting my husband's boss a discount on the room did not help us out of our situation, and that he really needed to find our belongings, because I really needed the medicine, and we did not budget to buy snacks, etc, twice. Hours later, we heard back that the bag had not been located, but now that everyone had had lunch breaks and the room cleanings were completed, it was likely already in the dumpster and they would not be searching the dumpster for it. They said we could apply for reimbursement if we supplied an itemized list of what had "been forgotten in the room". In hindsight, I get why the housekeeper explained having "thrown away" the bag so quickly, and I have a theory as to why a bag containing a bunch of unopened snacks and alcohol went missing. This theory also explains why none of the items in my bag were in the maids' cart or maids' trash when it was checked. This theory also explains why the granola bars from my bag were out on the counter. But the fact that housekeeping entered our room before we were checked out, before checkout TIME, and took belongings from our room -- for whatever reason -- and that the staff who should have helped us find those belongings IMMEDIATELY could not be bothered to do so makes this hotel absolutely a no for me. My husband is looking to stay elsewhere for future meetings.

The location is great, and I enjoyed my time in Newport. The room itself was an interior facing room, and was incredibly small, kind of musty and VERY DARK. Like too dark to try and get work done. I had been here several years prior and been impressed, but I don't think it's been updated since then. The room JUST fit two queen beds, no room for a chair or anything else. While this is fine, for $800+ per night for a weekend night, I should have gotten much more for my money. I'll certainly come back to Newport, but debatable if I'll stay here again.

Don’t stay here unless you want to hear music all night. |I thought staying here was the smart choice because it’s further from all the bars. A short walk and you get a good sleep. I was wrong. But it’s not due to a bar. The rooms at the hotel are set up so they all face an interior lobby, many having a terrace. There is constant loud music playing in this lobby. |I thought nothing of this until I was awoken shortly before 5am by the loud elevator music. When I called to complain about the music i was told “it’s always on”. No apologies for the disruption. No acknowledging my complaint. Probably because they hear it all the time and they get sick of answering to it. The indifference was annoying as heck. I would add a video if the site allowed it. |It’s a shame because otherwise the hotel was nice. Room was clean. Bed was comfortable. That’s all I require plus no noise. I regularly stay in five star hotels but can pass on all the frills as long as I get good sleep and cleanliness.

I booked a room for my family for 2 nights to swim, given they have an indoor pool. I arrived to find out someone had gone to the bathroom in the pool, and it was closed. When I asked for a refund, they said it wasn't their fault and that I'd need to find another hotel with a pool, and kept my payment. Luckily I have Amex and they forced the refund. Great location, ok rooms, absolutely terrible management.

I haven't posted on TA in ages, just got out of the habit but after my recent stay at the Newport Marriott I felt I owed it to other travelers to post a review. I am a Marriot loyalist (Lifetime Gold Elite which in Marriott world means not much of anything) and try to stay at these hotels when available. I read the reviews and although there was mix of positive and negative there were enough good ones to book my 2 night stay. Here is what I found. |This hotel is dirty! The hallway rugs are all filthy so starting there it's all downhill. I think all hotels should get rid of rugs in sleeping rooms especially like the Newport Marriott who makes zero attempt to keep them clean. Ours had brown spots on there (don't even want to think about what it could be) and large stains which grossed us out. We reported this to the front desk and they said we can't move you as we are full. Next best we asked for them to have housekeeping clean the rugs while we were out. We returned to the room and zero cleaning of the rugs, only thing they did was remove the filthy chair in our room which we requested. Laura at the front desk did discount our way overpriced room which was a good start, but not by enough considering the condition of it. They have a lot of nerve charging $719 (Friday) plus destination fee plus tax for a dirty room, I was appalled. We put towels all over the floor of our room and walked around in flip flops and at that price, RIDICULOUS. If people keep paying these prices for a run down hotel then I guess they will keep charging these rates. Worst lobby I have ever seen so I don't get calling this a beautiful hotel. There is a large open area which has nothing in it. They may use it for events but c'mon when you don't have one why not make it appealing? Breakfast buffet is the worst I have seen anywhere, the free one at a Hampton Inn is better. Location is great (trying to be positive). Let's talk about staff:|Starbucks employees: Rock stars both of them (don't know names sorry)! A+|Valet: 10 out of 10|Vickie: Food and beverage manager A|Laura: Step it up; throwing a little money at me doesn't improve my stay when you should have had my room inspected and would have seen that they did not clean the rug. Given the state of my room more should have been done. |To the folks at Marriott you need to do better inspecting your properties and keeping them to a certain standard. Start here.
