Winter wonderland. Seafoam skittering upland like melting snowballs in the 35 knots wind with gusts up to 45 knots. Proposal rock is the perfect setting for a beach wedding. Winter tides and waves pound the beach day and night with thunderous claps and booms as waves crash the natural breakers and shore rocks, reinforcing the awesome power of nature.
The sand has buried much of the forest, but it is still a magical place. The beach is very peaceful, accessible from the path by the bridge at Proposal Rock Inn. Private roads block closer access (why 4 stars only). Be prepared to cross a small creek on the beach. It's there always. Beach is not easy for disabled access, soft sand crossing.
Amazing beach and river setting, combined with a unique feature called Proposal Rock. Be prepared to take lots of great photos. And then there's the Ghost Forest itself....such an interesting history in this magical place!
You have to go at low tide or you can't cross the creek to see the ghost forest up close and many of them are under water. The ghosts are opposite from the parking and beach entry. There are bathrooms in the parking area and a cute little gourmet gift shop.
I was struck by this beautiful beach. The pine trees, the misty forest, the strange rocks dotting the shore, and Proposal Rock all create a unique vibe.
It has a more secluded, cozy feel to it, I think because it ends where the cliff creates kind of an alcove.
You can see Haystack Rock and Cape Kiwanda to the north so it's a nice view whichever way you're facing.
I'm so glad we decided to check it out! We'll definitely be back.
What a gorgeous place! We didn’t catch it when the tide was fully out but we were able to see some of the ghost forest stumps. I would certainly come back!
This site is amazing. From someone who has grown up at this beach, here are some tips:
1) Too see the petrified forest, you must cross the river that runs across the beach. At high tide the river is fat, but at low tide, it’s not bad.
2) The trees are only visible at low tide
3) This year (2023) the sandbar is high, and has buried a good portion of the forest. The only visible trees are on the far south side of the beach, but you can typically see them all the way from the Proposal Rock Island to the south cliffs. The beach changes every year so maybe next year, they will be uncovered again.
Very busy... there was the strange seafoam. But the town is so quaint, jad some ice cream and took a walk on tje beach
Most people just drive by this spot, I know I did for years. It is a must stop and enjoy location. We actually stayed here at Proposal Rock Inn, now a vacation rental property. You get Proposal Rock and the Neskowin Ghost Forest both at this spot. Lo
Very charming corner of the beach with great views and quick beach access. There is a market within walking distance which has firewood, snacks, hygiene products, and much more. The only downside are the walls are thin and neighbors to all sides can
