National Historic Oregon Trail Interpretive Center - Museum in Baker City - 22267 OR-86, USA

Oregon Trail Ruts Access... The interpretive center is closed due to renovation, but we found these wagon ruts right off of the highway in Baker, OR. The access area is off the highway before you reach the entry to the interpretive center on the left if you are heading north. I can't imagine their journey. Just to look at the terrain with the dips, hills, brush, and rocks, you have to wonder how they made it through. Not to mention the summer heat and lack of water or the frigid winters. Many of the ruts were plowed over for farming. I'm glad some still exist. It's a short walk down a dirt path to where the ruts are. The Oregon Trail history is so intriguing if you haven't read up on it. There are no amenities at this access point other than a small gravel parking lot. I'm not certain if a wheelchair or walker could navigate the path. I think a jogging stroller could make it. #towingservicesportland

Unfortunately it was closed for renovations. However we were able to go see the trail just about 1/4 mile down the road. Very interesting. Would be nice if someone could build a shelter over the tracks to preserve them.

Was interesting to see. They have some covered wagons outside and a few buildings you can walk to. We went the third week of July and all the inside stuff was still closed. Also was extremely smokey from all the wild fires. Still would recommend a visit. We stayed less than an hour.

Sadly the building was still closed but the Rangers did such a great job telling stories of times gone by. Truly a great place to check out and learn about some crazy people who blazed the trail. And some adorable kids with a blue bucket full of pretty yellow rocks :)

Extremely well done 👍 Animals and people and wagona and scenes looked so real and authentic. 1.5 hours seemed to fly by even though we didn't make time for the 1-hour video or the outside trails because it was very cold and our dog was in the car. Lots of interesting history and quotes. School kids were doing a bingo game and question contest by viewing all the exhibits and the we're all dressed in costumes of the day, as we're the adult escorts. Highly recommend this even if you are not into history or museums like myself.

Unfortunately the indoor facility was closed. However, the exterior areas were clean and full of visitors!. Very informative information at the exterior displays. This is an EXCELLENT stop...a must...if you are home schooling or are on family vacation. lots of trails and outdoor displays. The displays are actually so realistic, until I read the disclaimer about 'replicas' I thought they were real...

Really great displays, and super knowledgeable rangers ;) The actual hours are 9:00-6:00 during the warm months, don't let the time on Maps fool you. Good trail system, 2.5 mile loop. My advice: Skip the movie (which you could watch anywhere) and go through the indoor exhibit, taking your time. Definitely check out the trails and mines if you have time!

Fun place to learn much about a key American 1943 mile long land mark. Good for all ages. $8 per person or free with Parks Pass. Plan on spending at least 1 1/2 hours.
