On a business trip and really wanted to try sushi in Portland since I heard great things. Found Murata using google search and was walking distance from my hotel. The restaurant is popular and gets crowded so I’m glad I called ahead and made reservations. The experience and food quality and taste reminded me of my trips to Tokyo. Sushi was perfect and prices were also reasonable. Can’t wait for my next trip to visit Murata again.
An authentic Japanese sushi-ya with super high quality ingredients and very attentive staff. I visited this place for dinner and sat at the counter. They have a wide selection of Japanese dishes on the menu but the nigiri sushi is absolutely amazing. I recommend taking a look at the board with the daily specials where you will find a wide selection of amazing seafood, including some specialty items (like Uni) brought from Japan. If you are looking for amazing food and Japanese hospitality, this is the right place for you!
Good variety of fish and always fresh. You'll want to make reservations for both lunch and dinner. One of my favorite sushi places in Portland.
I had an enjoyable time here. I came with my family of 4, and spent around $200 from ordering 6 dishes. I came at 5:00 and they weren't completely packed yet, but it got busy around 6:30. When I walked in, I was shocked on how beautiful the place was, it truly looks even better in person. I love the Japanese interior and style, I can tell they put a lot of effort into it. My brother kept mentioning how this place had a Japanese clean style to it. As for the food, I would rate it a 10/10. This was the best sushi I've had in my entire life, but the portions are small so keep that in mind. I think that the portion would be good for a couple, but I don't know about someone with a big appetite. The service was amazing!! Like, this place left such a huge impact in my mind because the ladies were so sweet and patient with everything. I never felt rushed, and was always comfortable whenever they would come by. They took their time to ask us even when the shop got busy. I love this place, and thank you for making this such an amazing birthday for me!
Very grateful to have a sushi restaurant in town that is run by Japanese staff that creates more genuine sushi that’s not doused in eel sauce and buried in panko (even if they do that same weird discriminatory micro aggression that I also get in Japan when I speak Japanese and revive English back to me because I’m clearly only half). Having a heated seat and washlet in the restroom is also a huge perk
This reminds me of the sushi I had while in Japan. Amazing! Easily Portland’s best Japanese cuisine to offer (if not the entire U.S.) Kashiba in Seattle is the next in line.
I specifically looked for traditional Japanese restaurant in Portland (not the place with spicy mayo and jalapeno everywhere). This is it. I highly recommend a reservation for lunch. The restaurant is cozy. The waitress were kind and attentive. I ordered Chirashi A for lunch plus Hirame and Hamachi nigiri. I was a little disappointed with the fish. Half of the fish tasted amazing, and the other half did not hit the mark with flavor, temperature, texture (specifically egg, shrimp, eel, hamachi, and salmon). The amount of fish and rice were not balanced, and the thickness and cut were off. Miso soup and cucumber salad were great. It was a good meal, but definitely not close to the best sushi I have.
This place is in first place of best sushi’s we’ve ever had, and we are true sushi fanatics. I’m scared to show everyone of how good this place is bc they are already always booked yettttt they still get us in somehow even if we call in same day. They go way and beyond with service. One time we walked in without reservation they set up a whole new table station for us. We were by the glass wall where it was a bit cold and they pointed a portable heater at us! So thoughtful and considerate!!! But aside from amazing service This is the BEST sushi I have ever had, if you don’t like raw fish, I dare you give this one a try. The fish melts in your mouth, you won’t feel it, even the rice here tastes better! Tastes like it’s made with the most freshest ingredient by professionals. We recommend trying our favorite crunchy salmon roll, and the California roll 🤤
