Mountain Inn & Suites I-26 Exit 40 - Hotel in Erwin - 2002 Temple Hill Rd, USA

I read through the reviews and found one where an inspector stayed a year ago in the room I stayed in and reported all these issues which are still here. The bed was comfortable and I got to breakfast in time to find something to eat. The staff was wonderful. It was overpriced for what you got and I wouldn't stay here again but I came here because the alternative was a bunk bed at Uncle Johnny's hostel that had no AC or fans so I was in seventh heaven. But the reality is you can do better

They got the important bits right-- my room was clean and VERY quiet. None of the mold or tobacco smells others have reported, and also no noticeable cover-up scent of air-freshener or cleaning-product perfumes! The AC/heater unit was fairly new, and worked perfectly. The plumbing and electric worked. The staff was mostly invisible, but always friendly and helpful when I did encounter any of them. The very dated, (and in public areas kind of dingy) look and amenities, and ubiquitous evidences of penny-pinching and corner-cutting could be the makings of an amusing comedy routine, but weren't ever more than minor inconveniences to me-- for instance, the absence of power outlets where they ought to be for phone chargers and laptops, microwave down the hall instead of in the room, the meager pickings at the breakfast bar, etc.

The beds are comfy, the air conditioner is cold, and the coffee is hot. Rhonda really makes you feel like family while staying here. There’s a reason her trail name is ‘sweetheart’!

Had a great stay here! Rhonda at the front desk was wonderful and so kind to us and made sure we had a safe and comfortable stay as hikers! She's the best and there's many reasons why her trail name is sweet heart! Would totally recommend this hotel! Thank you Rhonda!!

This place is first-class. The breakfast buffet served from 6-9 has pretty much everything. Bagels, coffee and gravy and biscuits, eggs,sausage, cereal. It was packed by 7am!! Yummy it was. The rooms are very comfy!! King size bed or two queens at the same price, sitting chair with divan to rest your feet on and tasteful accoutrements and accents. Treat yourself to a night or a weekend getaway in true comfort at Mountain Inn Suites and relax!!

Rhonda at the front desk was very helpful. The housekeeping lady was also helpful. Those were the positive. I'm an inspector so I notice things that others don't. Most of what I'm about to list are Health and Safety items. Please see below for all of the deficiencies that I found. Room 202 has water intrusion damage at the window. There is peeling paint near the smoke detector. The smoke detector was missing the battery. The sprinkler head next to the smoke alarm had paint on it. The bathroom exhaust fan was inoperable. There was the beginning of organic growth in the bathroom. The grab bar was loose. The toilet seat was the wrong size and shape for the toilet. Every exit sign and auxiliary light that I came across did not illuminate. The stairwell fire doors did not self latch. Near the elevator on the third floor there were three missing outlet covers. The elevator certificate was expired. Outside the exterior parking lot light poles had electrical tape covering up the missing safety plates. Two of the nights that I stayed the hotel was sold out. Honestly I was worried about the safety of the hotel guests if some kind of emergency happened. Hopefully the Riser room has been inspected and hopefully the sprinklers have been tested. All of these deficiencies were in public areas where anyone can access.
