The guided tour through the cemetery was very informative and beautiful. There were many stops to talk about different people and their contributions to Rochester. The tour had some "off path" areas, but much of it was on a gravel path and easy to navigate.
The Friends of Mount Hope Cemetery is a wonderful nonprofit organization to help restore the cemetery and maintain the stones. The tour was 90 minutes and costs $15. They have various tours throughout the season and we are themed! Worth checking out!
Sarah our tour guide was very nice and informative, she kept it interesting and kept everyone engaged.
The cemetery is open daily for walking through to enjoy nature. There are paved paths throughout that would be easy to navigate with strollers or wheelchairs!
Absolutely breathtaking. Visited for the first time in early November to pray for the dead. The foliage and the entire cemetery was picture-perfect. On Voting Day, prepare to leave your sticker for Susan B. Anthony. Oh, and definitely wear your walking shoes!
Walked to see the graves of Susan B Anthony and Nathaniel Rochester. It's a hot day. 89. We stuck to the shade as much as possible. There is a bit of a breeze. We looked down on the UofR tennis courts. We saw a few others with dogs.
My recent visit to Mt. Hope Cemetery in Rochester, New York, left me profoundly moved by the unique blend of historical significance, serene landscapes, and a palpable sense of tranquility. As both a cemetery and an expansive arboretum, Mt. Hope offers visitors a remarkable experience that transcends the traditional perception of burial grounds.
a place with no noise only peace!! walk through the pathways and enjoy the wonderful cemetery full of stories, greenery, flowers and parks friendly creatures
Such a beautiful place filled with so many stories and rich history. It's beautiful and peaceful. Worth a tour, and definitely support the Friends of Mt Hope Cemetery. Their historic walks are worth the ticket cost, and the guides are very knowledgeable. I was here with my sisters for a Twilight walk, and I'd recommend attending one or two.
The Mt. Hope Cemetery is a must-see for any visitor to the Rochester area. Cemeteries especially old ones are unique in providing history and great photo opportunities. I enjoyed exploring this great facility and I had no trouble locating its two famous residents Susan B Anthony and Frederick Douglass. The short drive up the cobblestone road was a little hair raising for me though. I didn't want to mess up my new car's transmission. When you visit the Mt. Hope Cemetery don't forget your camera.
One of those gorgeous old cemeteries filled with the weight of history. Good to see the final resting places of luminaries like Susan B Anthony and Frederick Douglass, but also rewarding to walk through the old stones and trees.
