What an awesome education center! Because it is a place that seeks to educate the public, you are able to touch bones, antlers, and fur. Lots of Montana fish are present in the tanks. So much to see and do! A brisk walk around the fishing lake was so nice. We did not go with school aged children, but it seemed there was a scavenger hunt available to them.

I don't know why this is marked as a hiking area, it's a visitor center... Amazing exhibits for all ages, loved the fish tanks. There are lots of things you can touch, like bones and antlers, and also more detailed informational reading for adults. Spent a long time looking through the bird field guide that goes along with the pictures.

I took an injured fledgling here and the staff was so kind, helpful and passionate. I brought my young kids with me to drop the bird off and we were there for another hour just looking/playing and learning. (Bonus: they happened to be hosting a bird expo and we got to see some incredible ones up close.) I am so impressed with this organization for their caretaking and conservation efforts.

If you lived here your whole life and had no idea there was a fun, educational, and FREE museum you're not alone. Aside from that this place is fantastic. There's a fair amount of taxidermy animals, just so those who're unsure of that are aware. But furthermore they have plenty of living ones. A large aquarium, a turtle alongside a few salamanders usually. But the BEST part is the bird ambassadors. If you arrive in the mornings (8-9 o'clock) you can usually catch the birds out for their rounds where they're taking for strolls. There's usually some small souvenirs at the front desk and posters. Usually free. And you can also ask them for identification help if you need it. There's also some more interactive exhibits for the children. Plaques are plentiful with information on animals. There's bones on display as well as drawers near the back left area that can be opened to investigate different bird feathers and animal furs. All animals are Montanan species. Learn about least weasels, common loons, townsend bats and more. There's even an albino porcupine!

Our daughter wanted to go on her birthday. She had been there before, we had not. Although not a huge venue it was EXCELLENT! A fun place! I learned a lot. Really enjoyed all the "stuffed" animals. Also enjoyed the live fish aquariums. Definitely a place to take your kids or grandkids. Just off of the Hiway on the west side of town... would make a great place to stop if on a rode trip and just want to stretch and give the kids something interesting to see and do. If you wanted to go for a walk it also connects to the trail around Spring Meadow Lake, the new 10 Mile Creek park and trails and the trail (Centennial?) back to Carroll College, Centennial Park, Memorial Park, the Great Northern Town Center. Would also be a good destination for a family bike ride from almost anywhere in Helena.
