There are supposedly more museums in the US than Starbucks. I'd like to believe that's true, and if one really dives in and explores... it's not that hard to believe. We're always on the hunt to visit new museums and this week brought us to the Monrovia Historical Museum. For a FREE local history museum, they do a great job! This used to be the Monrovia Municipal Pool since WAY back, and when the pool grew too expensive to keep up, rather than destroy the building, they turned it into a museum! There are two wings, which were the women's and men's locker rooms respectively. There are all kinds of exhibits and rooms that show what houses, clothing, storefronts, music rooms, schools and more used to look like. One wing is more devoted to Monrovia history. The other currently has a WW1 exhibit and has a permanent Natural History collection that was donated by the owner when he passed. Even the old wooden boxes that store the items are cool as they are from the 1930s and were made to house the exhibit you're looking at! The telephone exhibit is especially cool. We had our five year old with us and they do have things kids can do. He liked dressing up as a policeman in the police exhibit. You can play with the phones in the telephone exhibit. There are a couple of cool touch boxes in the natural history collection... and even a desk set up where kids can color and play with Lincoln Logs. If you live in LA and are looking for a little day trip... I'd recommend planning a day trip and adding this to your list! You can visit the nearby downtown area by Liberty Park where there ALWAYS seems to be a festival of some sorts going on. There are cuts shops, restaurants and even a very cool antique store. Take a picture with the nearby Mark Twain statue on a bench in the park! Back to the museum... hedge expectations... this isn't Kidspace or The Natural History Museum or Discovery Cube... this is one of hundreds of small local museums... but they do a GREAT job! Visit!

Visiting museum is my jam. It always have interesting and sometime weird stuff. Anyhow, Monrovia Historical Museum is a small museum in the city of Monrovia. It is housed in a historic 1925 Spanish-style building that once served as the City's municipal plunge (now referred to as a public pool). It features exhibits on the history of Monrovia, life in the 1900s and Monrovia's contributions in World Wars I and II. The Museum currently has over 10,000 artifacts, many of which are on display. Admission is free. You won’t spend much time browsing the exhibits and artifacts. Staff was helpful and nice. Street parking only. Overall, it’s a cool lil town museum that you and your family will enjoy.

A sweet gentleman gave us a guided tour of the museum and he was well informed of so many historical stories to share that we would have never known just walking through ourselves. We even learned about Sampson the bear.

It was beautiful place and the event staff was helpful, energetic, and knowlageable. An event coordinator and having worked with many venue's and staff I was very impressed by their constant positive attitude, and willingness to help however they could. I appreciate that more than anything. The venue is beautiful very well taken care of special thanks to the leads that evening for all of their help Joey and Will you are the best.

We had our wedding there on 9/15/18, overall the city staff was great. But the security guards were useless power hungry jerks. They ate our food twice over and hid themselves away in the kitchen eating and drinking OUR stuff. We lost a bottle that was given to us as a gift. We speculate it was one of them since they were perhaps the most unprofessional people I'd ever dealt with. At 18/hr you'd expect more. Towards the end of the drink service, they began smacking drinks out of peoples hands. A beer was being poured at 9:59, the last drop fell into.the cup at 10 on the dot, one of the security guards yelled at my guests and smavk his drink out f his had. the worst people i ever dealt with. Ruined the lasr hour of my wedding. Idk who gave them permission to eat our food. they didn't even patrol or anything.. just stayed in thr kitchen. I wouldn't be surprised if they stole some of our gifts/or money. Worst service ever. Will never rent again or recommend. Something needs to be done about the rudely aggressive security.

Well I originally known it as the public swimming pool before the YMCA. But nonetheless it makes for a nice little museum that I am proud to have in my neighborhood as a neighbor
