The welcoming smile from the staff added a touch of warmth, although the chill in the air was noticeable. Despite being winter, the restaurant's AC seemed to be in full swing, a small note for future visits to bring along a jacket. The restaurant, cozy in size, had an intimate atmosphere that was unexpectedly quiet for an early evening, with just a few patrons besides us. Its smallness contributed to a more personalized and relaxed dining experience. I was immediately drawn to the vibrant neon sign highlighting the day's specials - an array of tempting choices like tempura soft shell crab and blue fin o-toro. However, my sushi craving was insatiable. We started our culinary journey with some classic saki bomb drinks, accompanied by the comforting warmth of miso soup and the delightful crunch of gyoza. For our main course, we chose the Crazy Tuna Roll and the Volcano Roll. Each roll was a masterpiece of flavor and texture. The Crazy Tuna Roll, with its spicy tuna and crispy asparagus, offered a satisfying crunch in every bite, while the Volcano Roll was an explosion of tastes, combining the heat of jalapeño with the richness of cream cheese, topped off with eel and crazy sauce. It was a delightful balance of spicy, creamy, and crunchy elements, making the Volcano Roll particularly memorable. What surprised me the most was the affordability of our meal. Despite the high quality and generous portions of the sushi, our total bill was under $60, making Modesto Sukiyaki not just a culinary delight but also a budget-friendly option. This restaurant proved to be a fantastic choice, offering a cozy atmosphere, delicious food, and prices that leave you pleasantly surprised. It's a spot I'd gladly recommend to anyone in Modesto looking for a great sushi experience without breaking the bank.

I really enjoyed dining here for dinner. I really enjoyed the Sukiyaki! It was very flavorful. Jovita had Beef Teriyaki which she enjoyed. For our beverages I had a Sapporo Beer and Jovita had hot tea. It was a disappointment to be served tea with a teabag and not in a small pot as one would expect at any Asian restaurant. The people here are very friendly.

Walked in and ordered to go, the staff was friendly and the service fairly quick. Tried the peanut chicken with rice, miso soup, and a small salad. The bluefin o toro is delicious and is a must! The sauce on the peanut chicken is thick but tasty. Anything fried is heavily breaded. Overall Liked the sesame chicken the most. They only use thigh meat for all their chicken dishes. The sukiyaki roll is very good just a litttle spicy. The California roll was average but priced well. The prices are reasonable and the place seemed popular. A quaint spot with a good amount of seating, all indoors. Would highly recommend!

The food is SO delicious. It’s small inside and sometimes the flashing specials menu is annoying if you’re staring at it. The tonkotsu ramen is my favorite in Modesto. The stuffed muscles are also SO good. Every roll I’ve had is also good. Consistently delicious!

This is the best sushi restaurant I've tried in Modesto, and one of the better ones I've tried anywhere! It's small and cozy, but there was no wait to sit at the bar. I ordered the Rock n' Roll, which was phenomenal! I normally avoid rolls with a lot of heavy sauces, but I'm glad I took a chance on that one because it was actually perfectly balanced and just full of incredible flavors. They also offer bluefin o-toro nigiri, which just melts in your mouth. This is definitely one of the higher quality sushi places in the area, and very reasonably priced. It'll be our new go-to from now on.

Was craving some katsu curry and found Modesto Sukiyaki. The fish tasted fresh and the plating was rather appealing. The Katsu curry was very good and definitely hit the spot. I will be back to try more of their menu for sure!

Enjoyed the atmosphere and the servers were attentive. The manager/owner was engaging with his customers and present with his employees, it’s always nice to see. I especially enjoyed the Nigiri. The roll I ordered was delicious too, but I’d probably suggest going lighter in the Unagi sauce.

Fresh food, quaint atmosphere. Enjoyed the variety on the menu. Service time is way below average which was shocking for the small amount of tables they're responsible for. The food and vibe will bring me back.
