This trail is great for hikers who want to get away from the crowds and see some beautiful views! The hike is 5 miles one way. 3 miles on the dirt trail through the valley, and 2 miles of constant incline up the mountain side. I wouldn't recommend on wet days, as it will be too difficult to keep traction going uphill. I also don't recommend for anyone who isn't in good shape. Some of the inclines are very steep and will require you to pull yourself up. It's not the most difficult climb, but it can be too much for those who don't hike or work out regularly. The views are definitely worth it.
Great trail, not super technical or difficult…when it is dry. If it is wet make sure you know what you are doing and come prepared. It gets very muddy and slippery quickly. Micro spikes are preferable and gloves. Lots of water for hot days. I have seen dogs in the trail but not sure if I’d recommend it. Beautiful views along the way. stepping on the stairs is ILLEGAl so I do not recommend it, but the hike before that is great!
Hiking up Moanalua Valley is the lawful way to get to the summit or the Stairway to Heaven, though it shouldn't be the only way. Because of a mostly vertical climb toward the end of the hike that was actually quite dangerous, we decided to go down the Stairway and we discovered that the Stairway to Heaven is still in great condition. Minor repairs are needed on at least two sections of the Stairway, but luckily those portions are on a flat part of the ridge. The safety issue is a farce! Spectacular views are what we went for and the valley and steep green cliffs delivered. The winds were strong! I almost got pushed over by the wind twice and got a lot of dust and debris blown in my eyes, but the views were second to none! The hike is challenging but every of part of the journey is enjoyable. We started at 6am and it took us a total of 10 hours to go up the Valley and down the Stairway. I would recommend taking your time when going back down the Valley on the descent down the False Peak. That is the only point at which you could die, so take caution. Also bring at least two quarts of water per person. Enjoy.
Awesome and amazing trail with beautiful views. It starts just flat on a nice wide dirt road. Once the climb starts it gets pretty steep. Weather can change from minute to minute too. CAREFUL: On the last climb there is no rope at the moment ( 11.11.2023). This is the steepest part and gets very slippery and dangerous. Walk as far as you're comfortable, but definitely do this hike!
It is very challenging trail experience with rewarding views. Staying hydrated and using gloves is a good tip. Being cautious on slippery parts and utilizing ropes on certain roads shows the importance of safety.Ones in a lifetime experience.
Great walk with beautiful green scenery, several bridge crossings and ancient ruins. Street parking only unless using the park. This hike can lead to the back side ridge to stairway to heaven. Hike can be partially shaded but muddy if it has been raining. There is a rock called the old woman that has petroglyphs on it.
Best hike I've ever done. We were pretty lucky to have a great weather the day we hiked, no rain, no mud at all. There are quite a lot of people hiking with you so sometimes it's necessary to wait in a queue at some parts. Whole hike took us (moderately fit, chill pace) 8 hours with 30 mins at the top. The views are unbelievable, You can see whole island of Oahu from up there, although it is a very strenuous exercise, my legs were literally burning during the descend. Take a lot of water with you and some snacks.
Bring hiking shoes, water (lots of water), protein bars, and snacks for this hike. Highly recommend doing it in the morning after a good breakfast. This is not an easy hike… you are on a 3.86 mile trail hike prior to the actual hike. Unfortunately, I did not get to complete it… but fortunately I got to spend time with nature and its gifts presented in front of my eyes. I can’t wait to go back one day and finish this hike. You live and you learn. The views showed me that life is a gift.

Great hike, like the other ridge hikes to the east but longer. Took right around 4 hours of moving time, longer with a couple of stops for pictures and to enjoy the views and breeze at the top. Some area with ropes that arenât really necessary when
The Kolowalu Trail is a great option for hikers of all levels. The trail starts from a large parking lot and park, with beautiful views of the entrance. The trail is 4.1 kilometers long, with a mix of gentle and steep slopes. The trail is not technic
Love this place. Guard gated so you're safe. Lots of cars getting broken into in Hawaii so we felt really safe here. Beautiful hike. With amazing views. If you come at the right time, there'll be tons of guavas and lumboy (Filipino grapes) ready for
Lovely hike, although be prepared for a large crowd; I went on a Monday morning for sunrise and it was packed. Headlamp recommended, but plenty of people used phone flashlights instead. If youâre driving to the trailhead parking lot, make a reserva
This was such an exhilarating experience for someone like myself who does not usually hike. It was a good level of challenge, but not frustrating. The end result was a gorgeous waterfall & peace. I would definitely do this again for the end result. M

Shoot was - as expected - amazing. Stunning mastery of technique, patter, and showmanship. Hilarious sense of humour, was great at working the crowd and had a lot of warmth and heart incorporated into his performance, and the story he told throughout
I have been searching and searching for great biscuits and gravy like I used to get back in Texas, and OMG these were so so so so much better than that. Did something different and went with the chicken biscuits and gravy and was happily surprised at
