Mission San Antonio de Padua - Catholic church in Jolon - 1 Mission Creek Rd, USA

Recently renovated and it shows. Beautiful native plant courtyard garden. The grounds are beautiful quiet and serene. The location is so remote it's easy to imagine life as it was when founded. It has an active parish. The gift shoo is full of unique items that help support the mission. Frankie at the reception area is so friendly and a wealth of knowledge. This place is so beautiful. My friend who has already visited this place arranged our trip to this mission. There were still roses blooming in the courtyard when we visited there this month, October. There are a nice gift shop and museum that is larger than I expected. We stayed for 2 nights there for retreat. We had to bring food and drinks and had them at the outside porch. Also we had a museum tour with Joan who was so knowledgeable and friendly. It was very educational and interesting to know the history behind those exhibits. I definitely will visit there again.

I have visited most of the California missions and this is by far my most favorite. It feels like stepping back in time every time we visit this lovely little mission. It is very clean and well maintained. The staff are friendly, helpful, and attentive. The gift store is wonderful with a nice selection of religious items, local artisans' wares, and other beautiful products. The sanctuary is peaceful and beautiful, the courtyard is lovely and serene, and the museum is very nice. I highly recommend the delightful hidden jewel!

The most remote and intact California Mission. A must visit. Quite and serene. Probably like it was 250 years ago. A 12 million dollar restoration was just completed. Money well spent. The mission looks amazing. Lovely gift shop and museum. Will go again.

Beautiful Mission with even more beautiful views. The shop is also huge! Definitely worth the drive.

In the early to mid seventies ther was a campground on site, in the orchard. My family lived there one summer while my dad worked up the hill at Fort Hunter Leggett. There was a young girl staying at the mission, my sisters and I had wonderful time exploring and learning about the history of the mission. My father and grandfather built a dam across the small creek that was there and all the children in the camp ground were able to have a swimming hole that summer. It was so sad to us when they tore it down and put everything to rights. We even survived a forest fire that ripped through that area . All the men in the campground either went to help fight it, or stayed and used the water from the damn to wet every thing in preparation of the fire coming our way. What a terrible but exciting day that was. They had Fiestas and celebrations there during the summer. I still have a set of rosary beads that I got there. Even though we were not catholic, to a child they were blue, and pretty and had powers. My sister still has a beautiful table clothe that she won in a game of post office there. The summer of 1972 was a magical summer for us.

Mission is off the beaten path, but its to its advantage. Walking around, you almost go back in time. Volunteer in the Gift Shop, didn't catch her name, was friendly and gave us a lot of information about the Mission. Lots of nice gofts. Definitely recommend visiting!

This mission is out of the way, but definitely worth a visit. The museum is large and the grounds are beautiful. You pass through an active military base (no check in required) and keep going 1/4 mile past what looks like a replica of a mission. That was William Randolph Hearst's hotel that is on the base. Contact the mission in advance, the mission rents rooms. They say they are a retreat not a hotel. Would love to stay here next time we visit.
