Lived in LA for 15 years, based in England now past 19 years, done my share of travelling. Second time I stayed here, main reason is location to Union Station which after a long haul flight I just want to walk 3 blocks, check in and sleep. Plus - free powerful WIFI, spacious clean room, ice dispenser, hot and cold water cooler, coffee in lobby, good water shower pressure, safe, big TV, waking distance to Japan town, Mexican place next door awesome food. Minus - the very soiled hallway carpet. I may pay more next time to try different hotel. But for location you cannot beat this. Remember this is a 2* so be realistic and you are in downtown LA so you will have the odd homeless etc but they leave you alone. Be kind. Enjoy LA. Namaste.

We did a tour of California for a week and this was the most run down hole of a hotel. Ignore the other fake reviews and photos they really made it look like something else. I didn't even take my shoes off in the room, the room had a damp musty smell to it the bed was solid bathroom smelt too with hair in the corners etc. we only picked it because it was the end of the bus journey from vegas at 11pm. Also the walls might of not been there could hear everything around us we left the tv on that was on some manky wooden swollen box to drown the noise of the snoring. It put us on such a downer we was in two minds to book flights back to the uk. Instead we pushed through and had a fantastic week.

Metro Plaza is in perfect, easy walking distance location for Old LA Olvera Street (don’t miss the Avila Adobe), Philippe’s famous restaurant, and Union Station. It was ok for a one-night stay. I hope the review below gives an idea of what to expect.||I felt safe walking around in the day, but. fwould not walk here after dark. ||Half of the hotel is recently renovated with new corridor carpet and modern rooms. ||Front desk people, including manager, are excellent and helpful. Despite being busy with several foreign tour groups, the staff remained patient and gracious.| |Lobby is very basic, with nowhere to sit. There’s a big screen of security camera views, and a security guard by the elevator, but axcard key is not required to open the elevator door. this might be a good safety, security measure— seen in many big-city hotels— for this hotel to add||A week before arriving, I spoke with the manager, requested a recently renovated room, and got one. But the window looked out to a barbed-wire topped wall! I asked if possible to switch to a room facing the beautiful old post office and Union Station, but the receptionist said the hotel was full, with the one available room reeked of cigarette smoke, despite the hotel following “no smoking” policy!||My room was large, bed was comfortable. There’s a large TV, mini fridge but no microwave. There’s a very large desk/shelf area and two hammocks to sit on. The bathroom was newly renovated, with an oddly placed rain- shower in the center of the shower-enclosure ceiling rather than the wall, which made it impossible to escape getting drenched hair. Unless you want a shampoo, bring a shower cap. The water temperature control faucet in the shower starts hot in “on” vertical position, and gets colder as you turn it to the left, which you can do only to 1/4 turn— different from standard shower controls.||Bath towels were small, thin and scratchy—I suspect to avoid any temptation for towel thieves. Likewise, there’s an in-room ironing board, but no iron. For that, you go to the lobby and give your drivers license or cash deposit and borrow an iron.||If I again had a morning Amtrak train to board, I’d stay at Metro Plaza knowing its quirks and limitations.||—

Rooms were just the right size for a party of 2. The seating arrangement could be changed, an actual chair would have been instead of the little foot rest the hotel provided as seats Service was great at the counter, checking in/out was a breeze with no difficulty. One thing not mentioned in beforehand(maybe I missed it) there is a parking fee if you stay in the parking lot within the hotel($5). Location was close to our plans.

Omg I use to come here all the time but today I went got a room and the lady at the front desk called my room talking about why do I have 5 people in my room .. and that I had to leave.. I went down stairs to try and talk to her but she was already really aggravated.. (mind you there wasn't 5 people in my room) nothing I said changed her mind she said she was gonna give me half my money back but I refused because we literally were there for 10 mins.. I had her call her manager, and they told her to give me the full refund.. she felt so dumb... but anyways never will I come here again she was beyond rude... so disappointed

Updated 2024.04.29 Room is dated, older, clean, firm mattresses, carpeted, non ADA water saver toilet, not convenient location of power plugs, bring your own long extension cord, safe and mini fridge in room, no microwave, workspace for laptop but lacks power plug nearby, round table in room allows for another laptop user with a second chair, ongoing project to renovate rooms; convenient location to edge of Chinatown. Free coffee in lobby, free WiFi in room. Lobby not a place you would want to be as it's not for lounging. Checkout 12 noon.

While not fancy, it's clean, quiet, safe & convenient to Union Station. Great value. Helpful staff. Cheap ($5) parking.

Easy check in and out. Quite and comfortable. No microwave or coffee in room but has a fridge. Coffee free in lobby. 3 minute walk into Chinatown. I paid 10 bucks for a full to go meal. About 2 blocks from Union Station. No
