The ramen here was amazing! All the ingredients came together and made me finish my bowl fast. Definitely the amount of spicy I was looking for. I tried the Spicy Corn Wings but because of my braces couldn’t enjoy them with comfort.
This place is just an all around YES! So good. BUT be prepared to wait in a line or wait to get there before they open. There is ALWAYS a line. Today was raining REALLY HARD and there was still a line. We got there an hour early and we were able to be the first ones in line but the line started to fill up very quick outside. You know this place is fantastic when there’s a line even with heavy rain. I highly recommend. There aren’t any takeout or to go containers for left overs but you can bring your own Tupperware like we did because it’s a lot of soup.
Food was amazing!! The area Mensho is located in is not the best just a heads up since there is a line you have to wait in. It took about 40 minutes for us to get seated. The Vegan Tantanmen was a heavy favorite of mine, loved the creaminess and all crunch of various items instead. The vegan GKO definitely was more spicy but also was very good!! Due to the spiciness though, it was harder to munch down still great though. The seasoning on the corn ribs was AMAZING. Would go back just for those haha
Was quite crowded even near to closing time. Ramen was decent but the corn ribs and fried chicken were too salty. Small restaurant but people do moving in and out quickly so the wait for a table wasn’t too long. Worth a try if it’s not too crowded but otherwise there are many other food choices around.
Seriously no idea as to why this place is so overhyped. Ordered the Vegan Tantanmen. Ramen was below average. The noodles tastes good as is, but the broth isn’t tasty. The only good thing about the ramen is the “smoked nuts” that they added. I’d give them a 2/5 for the food, at best. Service: My goodness! Our waitress was super rude. Communication was very hard as they barely spoke any English. We had requested for mushrooms to be replaced by something else, and she made a big deal for the request. I had asked for 2 forks, and waited so long that the ramen became cold by the time they brought the forks… Atmosphere: Really tiny space. The wait times are insanely huge. Price: They charge $24 for a vegan ramen — totally not worth the money you pay. And hey, the icing on the cake: They charge $1 for hot water. Yes, you read that right :)
TLDR: Spicy Vegan tantanmen was average with very less veggies, other things ruined our experience. Poor value for money. I regret waiting 45+ minutes to taste this food. Things we did not like: This restaurant charges ridiculous amounts for almost everything you can imagine, I am surprised they don't charge us for the air we breathe. 1) They charge 1$ for hot water (first time in the US where we are charged for hot water). 2) They enforce a policy of one ramen minimum per person (a big shock for us!). We got to know this only after standing in the line for 50 minutes in the rain. This may not be a big deal for many, but my husband and I usually order one ramen bowl and share the ramen between the two of us. This has worked out for us in the past and has been fun. Because of this stupid rule, we are forced to spend 2x, stuffing ourselves until we are no longer able to eat anymore and stil forced to do takeouts. Again, ramen should be eaten piping hot and in-person, takeouts never taste the same. 3) They do not pickup the phone number displayed on yelp, repeatedly called them to ask if they will substitute toppings and to enquire about their policies. 4) They charge ridiculous amounts for the topping (extra noodles 5$, even togarashi costs 2$, while other premier ramen restaurants charge half the price for these things). 5) They do not allow for substitutions, despite charging a very high price for the ramen. My problem with this place more than the cost per ramen is the poor value for money and the ridiculous charges for anything and everything and forcing customers to order one ramen per person. Atleast for the price they charge, I expected a decent restaurant experience. Food: We ordered the Spicy vegan Tantanmen. The broth had a very interesting smoky flavor. If you don't like mushrooms, avoid this place- they have mushrooms in most of the vegan broth for umami and mushroom heavy toppings). I liked the smoked nuts and the minced soybean but there were no other veggies excluding some leafy green, everything is 2$ extra. They charge 2$ extra if you order the spicy vegan tantanmen instead of the vegan tantanmen If you would like a "wholesome" vegan tantanmen with reasonable veggies, be ready to spend 30$ per person. Ambiance: This restaurant is located in a very sketchy area of SF, with homeless folks everywhere on the street. The restaurant can seat 25-30 people max, so everyone else has to wait outside on the street. It was drizzling when we stood in the line and there was no cover or waiting area. It was a surprise that we did not get mugged while standing on the streets. The restaurant was also very cramped - they had a large table and used acrylic/plastic dividers to divide between tables. There was no place to keep/hang coats, barely to even move around. Would not recommend this place for claustrophobic people. Service: We got an asian lady as the assigned waiter and her communication was very poor. We asked for forks and small spoons repeatedly and she kept attending other tables while our ramen was cooling down. For a michelin starred restaurant, this place was very underwhelming and overpriced.
overall pretty satisfying! best to show up at opening as a line can build up quick, especially on weekends. was not a fan of the spicy lamb miso— the flavors did not mesh and the broth was incredibly frothy and too thick. tori paitan was pretty good. corn wings were amazing 10/10. not a fan of the enoki chips— crispy and oily with no flavor depth. i would come back, but likely not go out of my way to eat here.
This place looks as good as it taste. Had to get the matcha ramen because I had never seen anything like it before. Can’t promise that I would get it again but it was definitely delicious. The matcha flavor paired well will the meat and spices. Towards the end it began to taste a little bit to matcha for me. I didn’t want to drink the soup after but some might. The Wagyu sushi was pretty good, meat melted in your mouth with the rice and it was a limited item had to give it a try.

This is one of my favorite SF Ramen spots. If you havenât been here yet I highly recommend it. The menu has both great vegetarian and non-veg options so there is something for everyone. My top dishes -Spicy Miso Ramen: It has a chicken based broth
Ramen is delicious ~ Broth is rich and tasty, perfect for the cold weather. We had some fried tofu, could be better, but it was still quite good (keeping food at 5 stars as the focus is on the ramen). Boba tea and thai tea were really good! Service
