Meizhou Dongpo Restaurant - Chinese restaurant in Arcadia - 400 S Baldwin Ave #2045, USA

Been here when they first opened years ago. Brought some friends visiting from Toronto. Wanted something close to the Arboretum to see show later. Presentation and decor is nice. Ordered the whole duck. Was cold and not enough cripsy skin. Duck soup was bland. The Sauteed short rib was good. Stir fried shrimp, steam scallops with vermicelli, bamboo shoots, kung pao chicken, classic dongpo pork in personal bowls. Ordered Pea sprouts but got A Choy instead. Always had water. But asked for a pot of hot water for elders, got 1 glass only. Guest enjoyed the ambiance of a private room. Service was good. Food was ok but the whole duck could have been better!

Very delicious Chinese food and glad the quality is consistent from location to location. Only issue with this location is they don’t seem to honor any Yelp reservations - I even had a confirmation but the host only had a paper with pencilled in reservations so make sure you call to reserve.

Overall a good experience. Service was good, although the waiter was not the most mild-mannered. Food was good. The signature Peking duck, although very good, was not the best I had. This restaurant is a good option for overall ambience.

We had the worst Peking duck here in our lives. We came here for the Peking duck but it ruined our whole LA trip. The duck was cold and dry and the skin was not crispy, taste like it's been frozen for a while before cooked. Unless you visit during peak hours like weekend nights, it is very likely that your duck is cold and not fresh. For a $90 Peking duck, that was far worse than our expectations. The duck bone was also not included and you would have to order them separately. They also don't slice the duck in front of you. Please visit a traditional Beijing restaurant if you want to try Peking duck

Recommended for the Peking Duck. Table side service was expertly done. The duck was fresh and crispy, cooked to perfection. The accompanying garnish and sauce were superior, well cut veggies, thick sauce, upscale sugar. The other dishes were fine, but not excellent. We had the black pepper roasted beef, which was slightly overdone and not fully trimmed. Still quite tasty. The greens were good, but not cut as finely as they would be for highest quality, and the seasoning was just a bit heavy. Roasted eggplant was sweet and spicy and delicious while piping hot. The Jasmine tea was good quality and went brilliantly with the duck. Service was friendly and flawless. Our party agrees that the best way to enjoy this restaurant is to splurge on the duck, and get a side vegetable. The other options are fine, but not at the same level as the duck.

The service was extremely nice. All the staffs were kind, my cup was never empty they always refill it as soon as they noticed that I’m almost done with my drink. The restaurant was neat and clean. Gives of a fancy vibe. The food was also really good especially the duck. You got to try it! Totally will be back again.

Came in with a party of 10 on a weekday. Not as busy as we thought it would be. The food itself was alright, but I would say for the pricing listed, it could've been slightly better. Probably wouldn't come again as this is a family style orient restaurant and the food quality is only slightly better than what I can find outside for a 10-20% reduce pricing. I would say, if you want to eat a nicer meal with a good ambiance, give this place a try once. Maybe you'll find it better than me. Edit 9/5/22: still wouldn't recommend this place if you're going for the signature dish. The duck, if you order more than one way of preparation seems to use other people's duck who only ordered one way of preparation. This would mean that your other duck dishes are someone's leftovers, in a sense.

This place is beautifully decorated. The service is excellent. However, it is pricey. The duck sliders which were the equivalent of Peking Duck, were very good albeit the duck skin was not crispy. The Kung Pao chicken was superb although inundated in peanuts. The sauce was delicious. The rice with shrimp was light and fluffy and not saturated with soy sauce as is all too common in so many other eateries. The sweet and sour pork was lack luster though the meat itself was extremely well prepared and grizzle free. However, the sauce tasted heavily like tomatoe which depressed the overall flavor of the dish. The food is good and their menu extensive. But what makes this place special are it's visuals.
