Woke bigots have taken over the museum leadership and removed nearly all historical objects that originate from non-whites. You are only allowed to learn about white culture here. If you're a native American, too bad, you can't learn about your ancestors. That would be racist. They said many of the artifacts have been reburied, preventing future generations from learning about the past. Mostly an empty building with not much left to see.

Visited here while in town. Had kids with me. The exhibits are not very kid friendly and a good majority of them are closed due to "repatriation". Instead of spending a bunch of money on closure signs talking about repatriation, I feel like the museum could make better use of the spaces with a new exhibit or obtain other artificats for the current exhibits. Hopefully they are in the process of this change. The museum was not very busy at all when I visited which was mid day on a weekday in the summer. Tickets are free which was good.

It was a pretty cool museum. Exhibits in order of what I thought was coolest; art from around the world, geology history, ancient Egypt, human origins, mussels exhibit, native peoples exhibit. Get a parking pass at the parking information center then park and go on in. Restrooms, but no wifi. Also, half of the native was taken down due to 'Removed for repatriation'.

For an entirely free exhibit it is fairly excellent. Some of the displays seem to change out from time to time based on what I've seen in some of the photos, and of course some of the exhibits feature replicas however it still represents a very good idea of what the original one was like (actually I tend to think it's best that museums don't place the original artifact on display) which is normally at a much larger museum. This museum can be walked through quickly though I advise taking in the detail for a decent 2 hours (I walked in forgetting the hour was moved ahead though still managed to compose decent photographs, which is what I intended to do.)

I specifically showed up to re-acquiant myself with the history of Tennessee’s indigenous people at a fondly remembered, extremely professional exhibit and found the place gutted after the most informative artifacts had been repatriated to the tribes. I feel bad for the future generations whose museum experience will only consist of Tennessee’s white history. I will no longer contest whites who act like this land was empty before Columbus showed up, because as far as what the museums show, it was.

I understand that the museum is in the process of slowly returning artifacts to their rightful home and while I commend that, it should have been done much sooner. At this point they need to close the native American exhibit as a whole. However the exhibit with will wilson that is there currently is absolutely beautiful and heart wrenching in the best way. The staff was also amazing.

I visited McClung on an assignment for college. It is a very interesting museum with multiple different exhibits. It is completely free but donations are accepted. The only downfall is the placement on The University of Tennessee's campus. It was a little difficult finding how to actually get to the building. GPS was NOT helpful. I ended up having to ask a student for directions. All in all, I definitely recommend it to anyone who is interested in the natural history of the Earth and/or Tennessee!

This was a wonderful learning opportunity for our kids. Lots of neat artifacts and exhibits. We were looking for something we could do on a budget and this was perfect as it's free to view. They would appreciate donations however. There is a small gift shop as well and they had some really cool little things for sale that related to the countries in their exhibits. Our family really enjoyed our trip here.

Lovely tour. Guide was very knowledgeable about history of Knoxville and the families who lived there. Lots of historic furniture, dishes and silver. Beautiful old home lovingly restored on 8 acres with beautiful trees, shade, and an old cemetery.
