Good natural areas with many miles of meandering trails and plenty of groomed playing fields. Nothing breathtakingly beautiful, but I appreciated its proximity to my neighborhood and that there is no admission charge. Nice dog park attached to the main park which has shade, plus is well maintained and without copious amounts of dog doo. Depending on time of day, there will be airport noise. San Antonio has been experiencing a drought, so I figured the water feature might not be robust, but in late Jan 2024 even after some rain it was just a mud puddle. See pic. Numerous trails remain a bit muddy even after a week since the last rain. Maintenance crews could lay some gravel to improve user experience.
Great place to run, bike, walk, or have a picnic. There are multiple trails for a different skill level. Family friendly wonderful park near your city.
I absolutely love this park! I love that there are trails for multiple skill levels. Parking really isn't an issue as there are multiple parking lots. You can hike, run, or bike the off road trails. People are generally courteous. And the park easily connects to the Greenway.
McAllister Park is a lovely place to ride a bicycle or walk the paths, which are nice and wide. The park is joined with Lady Bird Johnson Park, and several more parks as well. It's really pretty neat. There aren't many places to stop and sit, but there are at least a couple of nice benches available. It was such a pretty day and I enjoyed very much the peace and quiet beneath the shade trees, listening to the wind rustling through the leaves and the melodies of the various birds calling out to each other. And did y'all know that McAllister also has a dog park? I watched as several dogs seemed to enjoy the freedom the fenced off area provides. On a less positive note, I have to say I wasn't thrilled with the porta potty I braved utilizing. It was disgusting and had no closure on the door... Not a private potty, to be sure, but I'm happy to say at least there was toilet tissue on the spindle.
I wandered through some of the natural surface trails and was impressed with the natural beauty of the area. There are many deer in this nature preserve, and when I was seemingly isolated I noticed bucks in several directions, so I turned in a different direction to avoid triggering the deer's fight or flight response. The trails are shared use between mountain bikes and people on foot, and I liked some of the drops that I saw. There are many unmarked forks/intersections in the natural surface trail system, but the system isn't too big to get lost and some trails are marked. The trailhead parking area is adjacent to a a cycling adventure park and a short walk away from an outstanding-looking dog park. The park connects to the greenway trail system. I only spent about an hour here on a Monday morning and was thoroughly impressed with the cleanliness of the park, natural beauty, wildlife, park amenities, and feeling of safety in an area close to the core of San Antonio.
I genuinely feel that this is one of the best parks that you can go to in all of San Antonio, if you want to go biking there are trails for it, if you want a more dirt path you can do that too. No matter what you are looking for I'm sure you can find it here, you can go with a pet or take young kids, or adult friends. The blue loop that McAllister has to offer gives you a nice feel of all of what the park has to offer, the only thing is that the loop is about 6 miles, so people who don't like to walk for that long might not enjoy it as much as people who walk regularly.
Big park, nice place, easy/med trails some paved others not, marked on the maps... They don't have any "you are here --> " dots so it's hard to tell where you are in the park unless your familiar with the area. Nice playgrounds for kids and adults.
Park is huge, lots of places, fields, pavilions. It's awesome for beginners at mountain biking. No dirt bikes or horses allowed. Kid and family friendly. Highly recommend.
Fourth time here. We obviously always have a blast. Itâs a great activity for children and adults to play together. And as an adult, weâre having just as much fun as the kids. Parking is usually pretty easy too. Highly recommend!
So much yes!! We came here for my brotherâs birthday and the whole family got to play. Seriously, so awesome and so easy to figure it out once we got started. Highly recommend this activity for all ages. They have a ton of games to choose from and
