Maverick Smokehouse - Restaurant in Defiance - 1102 Holgate Ave, USA

I’ll start out by saying the customer service was great, very friendly. It was also easy to get to. There is maybe 4 or 5 tables and they are old, it’s basically a take out. Now the food, for being BBQ the food had zero flavor. It’s like they are afraid to use seasoning or wood on the fire, there was zero smoke to anything. The brisket was however tender, but a little of chunks of fat which had no flavor and so much grease on the outside that I soaked 2 napkins wiping my hands. The beans were straight out of a can, mashed taters were too along with the Cole slaw. Not the worst place we’ve eaten but definitely down there when it comes to the food.

Gem! Go! Absolutely 💯 so good, when finished, I wanted a re-do! My tummy said no but that's how good the flavors of Mavericks Brisket & everything ordered was!! Tamales, They are filled with smoked Brisket & pork rib. Lucky enough to have scooped up a dozen to enjoy! I enjoyed walking into this small spot to be welcomed by EMTs, smiling faces, happy customer service for us newbies too. No fancy jaz here, just absolutely fantastic!

this was my first time dining here and I couldn't have made a better choice. I had the pulled pork brisket served like an open face sandwich along with fries and slaw, very tasty and tender.. I can't wait to go back and try some other menu items. Staff is unbelievably courteous and welcoming, very nice!! Mavericks....a great place to grab some Que!!!

I am from Oklahoma and was just passing through for work. I saw a smokehouse and thought I would try it out. I had the brisket grilled cheese and it did not disappoint. I finished up with the homemade cheese cake and it was amazing. This was a small shop but big time flavor. Definitely come back when I ever drive back through.

If you haven't eaten here, GO, RUN, and for heavens sake try the brisket grilled cheese. Hands down the BEST sandwich I've ever had in life, it's hands down the best sandwich in town, or ANY town around for that matter. Everything was so delicious, fresh and quick! Don't even get me started on that banana pudding, it literally almost brought me to tears. It was the closest I had tasted to my late grandfather's famous banana pudding ever. So go, don't hesitate, I promise y'all won't regret it! The owners were so friendly and helpful we will DEFINITELY be back! Keep it up guys, y'all are exactly what defiance needed!

Another great lunch at Maverick Smokehouse! This time we tried the two-meat special. I got pulled pork/rib tips and my wife got 1/4 chicken/brisket. All were superb - juicy, seasoned well, and smokey. Plus, their BBQ sauce is awesome - just a tad bit of heat and lots of sweet! We will continue to come back. These guys love what they do and they do it well! A true gem for the Defiance community.

Not a bad little BBQ joint. Ribs could've been a little more tender but flavorful. Brisket tacos were pretty tasty as well. Seems customers come from miles away and I do mean MILES away to get food from here. They support locally so another upside.

The place was very clean and the staff was super nice! Food was terrific! I recommend the brisket grilled cheese with the mash potatoes and gravy.
