Maumee South - Park in St Joe - Searcy 52 Hwy, USA

This area of the Buffalo National River is a gem if you have it all to yourself. I was there on a Wednesday - Thursday and not a solo, except a Huge Bull Elk walking through a foggy camp!

Very nice campsites. Vault toilet, which was very clean and river access as well. Campsite is free and first come first served. Easy river access/take out. Other than occasional traffic to the Maumee North river access during the day (located just upstream of the Maumee South) it was nice and quite on a very warm February weekend. About 3 miles back up the road is access to the Buffalo River hiking trail which was very enjoyable.

Didn't camp, just went to swim and check the area out. Sites look nice. Good river access. Swimming was decent, a bit low (June). Clean area with nice size gravel bar/beach.

This is a wonderfully beautiful spot, so great that I'm moving to Arkansas from Texas so I can spend more time there. I was shocked to find such a perfect place in this day and age.

Amazing weekend! Spent 2 days kayaking the Buffalo from Tyler Bend to South Maumee with a primitive overnight at Red Bluff. The takeout point here is easy to spot & the campground is within less than 50 yards away from the water. I personally didn't camp here but our friends did & they loved it.

Great entry point to the buffalo. Had an amazing day on the river.

First time canoeing and fun area to be in. Clean river most of the time. Lots of shallow areas too. Not many sand areas to set up tent in the 24 mile stretch. Some sand areas still have rocks.

Best spot if you don't want a crowd.
