MHPCC is a USAF high performance computing center supporting a variety of scientific and technical research efforts. The technical staff, which has fluctuated between 20 and 60 over the last 20 years, includes specialists in Linux system administration, and system, network, and software engineering. The center enjoys excellent WAN links, and its shared and dedicated computing resources has traditionally included the US DoD's most powerful parallel computer. The center has been managed and staffed by civilian prime contractors. The work environment includes shared offices, most with outward-facing windows, and reasonably recent workstations. Pay grades have been reasonably competitive with the defense/aerospace industry norms, and usually included a Hawaii COLA. The center is located in the Maui R&T Park, which includes a handful of other civilian and defense-focused IT concerns offering a degree of variety for technical professionals.
