Absolutely gorgeous place to walk and hike. Beautiful scenery and fascinating history too. Right across from the Indian Lake Park. Trails around the farmstead ruins are well-kept and not difficult to traverse. Lots of birdwatching action here too!

Great place to stop! It looks like castle ruins from the road. Very impressive. Great information sign with information about the Matz family. it would have been nice to be able to get closer to the ruins, but I imagine they're worried about further damage. Still a great place to walk around and stretch your legs while driving. Definitely recommended!

Really interesting find in the middle of nowhere. No goats were present during my visit. It’s difficult to imagine life 100+ years ago, even with a partial structure standing front and center. There is a small placard with a bit of history and back story. Visiting here probably won’t take more than twenty minutes, parking for maybe 6 vehicles or so. Cool spot!

The ruins have this amazingly ancient feeling to them even though they are only 150* years old! Nice spot to check out if heading to Indian Lake County Park.

Very beautiful prairie with a bit of history as well. The fall colors here are great!

Indian Lake Park and the Matz Farmstead ruins are worth checking out. If you purchase the "Stargazing" permit on the Dane County Parks website, you can be out after 10pm for a nice night sky. Madison Light pollution is to the south.

The ruins were neat and the goats were a great bonus! The trails go along farm fields rather than prairie most of the time, though

Interesting place to explore and a dramatic/historical photography subject, although fences do pose some accessibility problems for getting "that perfect shot... This particular image was a very long (>1 minute) exposure, smearing the summer clouds into streaks.

I’ve heard a lot of locals talk about this bar so I finally stopped in on my way home. Everyone was right. The bar is clean, the locals were nice and the owner is truly welcoming. The outside has two patios, horseshoe courts and a volleyball court

Lively and festive bar atmosphere. Good food. Friendly bartenders with excellent service and a smile. Some decent tap beers. Plenty of liquor options. There are darts, touch tunes, and some other bar games. Definitely will be back.

After a long day collecting seeds and photos & scientific observation, nothing better than a Culver's Medium Chocolate Concrete Mixer with ample large chunks of Oreos mixed in. After a warm early autumn afternoon walking around for 7 hrs on the steep
