This place has many opportunities to hike around, visit different habitats and spend a good afternoon with the family. The Visitor Center was closed for the summer, so we couldn't stop in. Fee to park at the Center lot could be paid by cash or card. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable and guided us toward the different exhibits they have on site. Various interpretive displays are scattered throughout as well as benches every now and then. Trails are decently-marked; though some of them are narrow, have a number of roots or other elements to trip on, and need more regular upkeep. Some things were blooming, but it is best to visit the trails other times of the year too to take in everything they have planted there. Be on the lookout for poison ivy close to the trails: it is there.
This is a nice and leisurely walk which I took with my husband and 9-mo baby. The walk was very shaded and we were greeted with lots of trees, birds, and chipmunks. A small boardwalk overlooking the water, beach and Sandy Neck Light. Lots of parking on the grass.
Lots of educational opportunities here. Many native plants are labelled. The meadow is alive even in late autumn.
I brought my 5 year old daughter to the 2022 enchanted forest tour for Halloween. The people were friendly, the animals were happy, the kids were more behaved then normal and learned about their surroundings in a fun way
Awesome! Ladies working there are most helpful and obviously enjoy their work and proud of the place. Beautiful natural area. Finding an area of the Cape left in its natural state is wonderful.
The only Mass Audubon location on the Cape with a beach. I can imagine the butterfly mosaic section being amazing during peak butterfly season (we saw more bees). The beach is not very big, but is shallow and has soft sand. Spotted plenty of birds including a pair of turkey vultures. A new vistor center just opened (but there's not much in it just yet).
If I had to choose between locations, I like the Wellfleet one better, so this only gets 4 stars relatively.
Fields of flowers, wooded trail, ponds teaming with turtles and ducks, marsh boardwalk, beach access, spectacular ocean view, playground. There are several buildings being worked on that I believe will be part of an educational program. Really lovely! Highly recommend!!
Enjoyed my visit, surprisingly a lot of good bird activity despite it being middle of the day. Trails are well groomed but could definitely use more markers and full trail maps posted at trail heads. A very family friendly nature area.
