I thought it was awesome!! We spent about an hour on site listening to the stories of Rawlings and her life and previewing the home. The tree canopy on site is amazing!!

The historic home of the Pulitzer Prize winning author of 'The Yearling.' Located at Cross Creek (she wrote another book by this title), a rural community in SE Alachua County. Authentic of the 1930s decade with a seasonal garden and small orange Grove remaining, and a nature walk. Dogs on leash allowed on grounds but not inside the house. Family oriented, with tours available Thursday - Sunday. See State Park website for specific details, admission is $3/ vehicle (up to 8 people). Holiday decor from early December until the end of the year. Summer closure of the house around August 8 for 2 months while grounds remain open.

Great park with a small boat launch, a park, picnic tables, and a pretty nice "track" for walking laps. Great place to see sunset and air boats.

This site is a snapshot of ‘old Florida’ before we began to fill the state with animatronic theme parks and palatial subdivisions. It represents a slower lifestyle when we grew our own fruits and vegetables and raised our own livestock. You can spend a pleasant hour or two exploring Ms Kinnan Rawlings home and small orange grove. This site is especially interesting for fans of her books and has a nostalgic charm for Florida natives that remember the old days. The tour guides are knowledgeable and are clearly fans of her work. I enjoyed hearing about the famous authors that came to visit.

I love visiting this lovely home. Each time I visit, the guide expresses their knowledge of MKR, and more is added to the colorful life of a great author.

This is one of my most favorite places in Florida. I try to go at least once a year. Definitely go on the free house tour (Thursdays through Sundays.) Every time I've gone, the guides have been able to answer every weird question I've thrown at them. They even knew the name of the paint color (FYI: Shermin Williams Cheese Curd.). I love everything about this place - the house, the remnants of the orange grove across the street, the barn, and that you get a day full of fun for only $3 per car. Can't beat that with a stick.

Beautiful scenery! However, if you have an inboard or v-hull boat, you might want to launch elsewhere. We got all caught up in the seaweed and had to "chop" our way to deeper water.

I went on Monday and the inside wasn't open. It was all the same magical. I own the movies and the books. This place is old Florida at its finest. I love Cross Creek. I love this home so much. There is a romance about it. Such sweet air. Come visit!
