Maples Motel - Motel in Sandusky - 4409 Cleveland Rd W, USA

I didn’t stay here but our tire blew on a transit van holding 10 kids and 4 adults. we pulled into the nearest off the road establishment which was this place to keep the children safe..because this road was dark..we didn’t have a spare so we had to find local help which was hard.( we live 2hrs away) After searching for a hour plus we finally got someone to come out.. and once they came out this owner demanded that we get off his property… because he said the tire air pump was disturbing his customers.. but literally a train came every 5-10mins.. 50x louder than the pump..so we got it towed off his property and had to walk 2 plus miles in a thunderstorm with the kids because we couldn’t get multiple xl Ubers to pick up that many ppl plus it was 130/2 am .. also was hard to find a hotel because it was Labor Day weekend.. I never played the racist card but when you know you know..you would think someone would be understanding. But he wasn’t.

I don't know how the average review of this place is so high. I'll give it 2 stars rather than 1, because the guy there was friendly and helped with the temperature inside the room when we raised that concern. But the rooms really need a thorough re-modeling. There was no lock on the bathroom door, the sink looked like it was being kept up by a tent pole, there were holes in the sheets, and flies in the room. It took an hour to swat all of them. The outlets were also very hard to reach. I had to use my laptop as an extension cord for things like my phone. Many reviewers said they like the old fashioned feel of this place, and if you like it too, that's good! But if you ask me, the right word to use is outdated, not vintage. The Spenser House in Erie PA is a perfect example of a vintage, old-fashioned place which is beautiful, but it has updates needed to keep it comfortable in the 2020s. The Maples Motel, unfortunately, is outdated. Maybe it improved since my stay in June of 2022, but from what knowledge I have, I don't recommend this place.

Me and my dad have passed this motel many times and said “that looks awesome well have to stay” And last night we did. its a trye time capsule of the nuclear era.steve was very nice and gave us a room for 80 bucks. The pool is very refreshing and cool. The location is convenient and right inbeetween both of cedar points entrances. The only thing I would said is kinda annoying was the trains at night but we slept through it. Also caught this monster of a catfish after staying here so thats cool.

I loved it. Owner is super nice. The pool is warm. You can't beat the prices, either.

Have stayed here a few times on my way up to Michigan and Chicago. It’s really a cool place. Trying to book a room and I can’t find a contact number that works. Does anyone have a current number? Is it closed? Thanks, Austin

Very cool place with a lot of history! Steve was awesome and helped us out when we were in a pinch. This place should be the focal point of the town and is treasure that should be protected. It supported Cedar Point when the park was just starting. A throwback to simpler times when I use to travel with my mom and dad!

Rooms always smell fresh and clean. Great location far enough away from the traffic of Cedar Point next to a nature preserve and right by the back entrance of the park. Owner is very friendly and the rates are fair. There is a railroad crossing across the street and a loud train horn blows every 40 minutes or so. I heard they have earplugs but I enjoy the sound, especially the rumble of a train, doesn’t keep me awake. The pool is fresh and clean and cold. Donuts and coffee in the office in the morning if you’re up early enough. Always a nice stay.

My husband and I stayed here during Labor Day weekend. The Maple Hotel is a family run business that has been passed down. Haleigh the girl at check in was polite friendly and even wrote down local restaurants for us to try. This Motel is a very safe and welcoming place! We met another couple from West Virginia and the gentleman has been staying there since he was young. (We are an older couple.)First the smell of the room was clean and fresh. I always grab a wash cloth and wipe it over the carpet to see how clean the floors are this floor was spotless!! It may not be the Ritz but when you stay at the Ritz you don’t get the warm quaint feeling and you never get the owner coming out and talking with you while he is cleaning rooms!! The owner was amazing! Honestly it was like we had known him forever. He told us about the history of the Motel and you could see how proud he was owing and maintaining his families business!! The bed was comfortable, shower pressure great and very hot water! Honestly if there would’ve been a campfire I feel as though the people staying there would’ve all been outside talking and enjoying each other’s company! Keep the Mom and Pops business alive this is what it’s all about!
