Mama's Place - Bar in Metairie - 1624 Hesiod St, USA

I didn't get to walk around the joint. It seemed small. It was busy, there were a lot of people. The food came out super fast, and was decent. We were participating in Trivia Night. It was super fun. The staff kept on top of things. Everyone was welcoming, despite being competitors. It was a good vibe. I'd do it again.

Waitress never cracked a smile. Percentage was added to ticket if you used a credit card. We paid cash and were still charged added amount. Gave cash to the waitress and had to wait for change and was charged as if I paid cash. When I pointed it out she pointed ti a man behind the bar and said if I questioned it to see him. Turned around and left me standing there. I used the part i was charged as part of her 15% tip. She could talk to the man behind the bar and get it back. I left. Also I ordered a roastbeef po boy. The roast was delicious cooked the old fashioned way, however I was disapointed that the bread was not true french bread. I took a bite of my friend's fried oyster and it was delicious. Too bad I won't be returning to order any just because several of us had the same experience of being charged the CC penalty when paying cash. Rip off. If I were the owner I would look into this practice???

I'm ashamed to admit I keep forgetting to take a picture of my food I order at Mama's Place... I dig in so fast and munch it down so quickly that taking a photo for review just slips my mind until the meal has been decimated. I no longer live in New Orleans and just discovered Mama's Place recently (September 2023), but it's the quintessential neighborhood bar that serves great food. Very typical of New Orleans, I really miss that. Where I live now has no such places. Don't let it bring a BAR setting the fool you, although they have very few tables for seat-in dining, this place has FABULOUS food...and not just typical bar food either. Yes, they make a fantastic hamburger and fries. Yes, they have New Orleans poor boys. But they also make a killer Club Sandwich that is huge with a side of potato salad as good as that served Rocky and Carlos in St Bernard. Of course since it is an actual bar with a couple of video poker machines inside, you have to be over 21 to enter and /or eat there, so it's not a place to try to grab a meal if you're with minors. Mama's Place offer daily plate specials. Just so happens that I was in town to catch their Monday red beans and rice which were fantastic. Large bowl, very well seasoned with some sausage in the beans. The order also comes with a side of bread, sometimes cornbread sometimes French bread. You also get a side of an additional protein: either mild link sausage, hot link sausage, grilled or fried chicken breast. It's a really delicious bowl of beans for just under $10. I noticed on the menu that they also offer steamed lobster with the potato and corn as their Friday plate special. The price varies depending on market, but the week I went there the waitress told me it was $19.95 - Will definitely try to make my next visit to New Orleans on a Friday to catch that daily special. If there is a downside to Mama's Place it's that it's in a residential neighborhood and has very few parking spots in front of the actual business, otherwise it's street parking and with the residential driveways you may need to walk down a full block to find a spot to park. It's nice to have a well cooked and well-balanced plate meal and/or hamburger with a beer or cocktail after a long day. If you haven't tried Mama's Place yet, definitely recommend you give it a try if you're in New Orleans. There located in old Metairie part of Jefferson parish - near the Bonnebelle I-10 exit

Loved the Ahi tuna sandwich special, the sliced filet mignon sandwich, and the fried mushrooms. We will be back for more.

This is the place to be!!! Warm atmosphere, Great bartenders and delicious food. The neighborhood vibe is amazing and there is great for the outdoor seating.

The food was fantastic and the inside was so fun and festive!! We had a great time playing pool while we waited for our food. Highly recommend!!

If you want an awesome night out I suggest you visit Mama's place! When you get there ask for Rob he will ensure your night is a memorable one. The atmosphere, the patrons and the service are incredible. What a night!! Rob has left us with some long lasting memories, ones we will never forget!! Thankyou Rob we look forward to visiting Mama's place and seeing you again real soon for a great night out! Oh and don't forget to try the frogs legs... They're a must.. What a nightmare...can't drink the drink you paid for due to out of control customers that the owner decided to allow to curse.. knock me almost out of my chair and continue abusive language...including saying f@$& this bar...really??? 2nd and last visit here..sad...never again..owner bowed down to.these people...chose to allow their rude..disruptive behavior..paid my tab..left...
