I loved this place! I've been to several Mediterranean restaurants and I always tasted the after taste of Lamb. I didn't grow up eating lamb so I never liked it. I tried their soup with lamb in it and it had no after taste! There are plenty of gluten-free options as well. Great food, service, and great people!

We walked into this place and were greeted immediately. Service was outstanding. This restaurant was clean. We ordered the Sampler Platter, with a salad and a lentil soup. Plus, a soft pita bread. Wow! Yum!! A light Arabic music played in the background while we enjoyed our lunch. We brought over half home from our travels. We always have a cooler while traveling. Look at the menu and try a wrap with fries. Hummus, as an appetizer, will be a perfect starter. Just a suggestion for your first time. Enjoy!!

This place is incredible! Everything about it was good. The staff are friendly and answered any questions we had in great detail. I had the Chicken Ghallaba and it was perfectly seasoned and the chicken was very tender. The rice was also perfectly cooked and seasoned. I travel to UAB quite a bit and I am so glad we discovered Makarios. I will be a frequent customer.

I tried different menus from Makarios but never shared my experience on google maps. Makarios is so far the best Mediterranean restaurant in Birmingham. I loved their beef Shish Kabab. The smoky flavor of beef bring me many times in the restaurant. However this time we had beef wrap, chicken cheese quesadilla. Moreover I will suggest the lamp chop which I tried few months ago.

Bursting with flavor! The food here is AMAZING! The restaurant was clean, service was good, food excellent! We ordered the lamb with hummous for an appetizer. It was served with soft pita bread. The hummous here is creamy and very tasty. For entrees we ordered the Makarios Basha (ground lamb mixed with onions, mushrooms and tomatoes) and the zesty lamb ghallaba (served with veggies, hummous and basmati rice). Both entrees were very tasty and flavorful. They contained fresh ingredients and came out hot. We also had the lamb soup prior to our entrees. The lamb soup reminds you of vegetable soup. We will definitely return! Food was a little pricey but certainly worth it! Portions were large enough to have to go plates. Update: 8/2023 I had to come back. I had the same dishes as before but ordered a small Makarios salad. It was topped with beeta. The salad was similar to your traditional Greek salad and tossed in a really goof salad dressing. I've had three so far! Update: October 2023 Had the lamb chops (market price) served with Basmati rice and a Makarios salad. Very tasty! You can choose to get 3 lamb chops or 5. We also had the garlic almond rice with lamb. Everything here is tasty! Update: December 2023 We ordered the salmon hummous tonight as an appetizer. I ordered the 5 piece lamb chops with Basmati Rice and a side of Tahini Sauce and almond rice with lamb. Great food as always!

Good. To me the food seems like they buy the ingredients from restaurant depot and just serve the customers. No unique taste.

The lentil soup was amazing, dip the bread! The lamb shawarma was out of site amazing, chicken shawarma was a bit dry. The garlic sauce was super tasty and the carrots surprisingly good. Don't sleep on this place.

So glad this place is here! Open pretty late until 10pm so when I landed door dash had already delivered it to my hotel at perfect timing. I loved it so much that night, I went back again the next day for lunch! Got the Gyro plate with basmati, makarios salad and the makarios cake - highly recommend all three! That cake really was fantastic. Not overly sweet and simply satisfying! Plus it’s a chilled cake so it’s also refreshing with warm temps outside! The place is authentic as you can get, great service and attention and kindness! Mediterranean food is by far my favorite and this one does not disappoint!
