MainStay Suites Texas Medical Center/Reliant Park - Featured Reviews (788)
missing a dryer and smelled very dingy. I tried to call housekeeping to request a hair dryer and a couple towels as our room only had 2 towels for the whole weekend. There was no number to call housekeeping so we went to the front desk to inquire about getting these things. We spoke to Mahogany who seemed annoyed with our requests and said she’d let housekeeping know and they’d bring these things to our room shortly. An hour later we heard nothing so I returned to the front desk and again spoke to Mahogany who seemed exasperated that I was following up on my requests for these items. She opened the drawer on the side of her desk, handed me 2 hand towels and stated they don’t have anymore towels and all they working because we couldn’t even get a hair dryer, towels or follow-up from Mahogany. The next morning a different, helpful employee was working the front desk and was able to assist us and gave us the king bedroom suite that we had paid for. That room was very nice and we had no issues other than the elevators were out of order and we had to use the stairs. The hotel property/area seems dangerous, is unkept, has abandoned hotel cushioned chairs thrown in the back parking lot area, and the carpet in hallways has large brown, dark soiled sections. The stairwell is hot, dingy and the carpet looks as it hadn’t been cleaned in years. Pictures are included in this review. We will not stay here again.
They only have 2 luggage carts. We have stayed here multiple times, and more than half the time, there is no cart available when we are checking in or out. My wife and I both have serious medical conditions that require us to carry A LOT of baggage. Neither of us get around very well anymore, so the luggage cart is a huge issue for us. None of the staff have been very helpful. |Otherwise, it is exactly what we need. The rates are reasonable and the full kitchen is a real cost saver.
I previously recommended this property to patients, but it is now awful and dangerous. Parking lot filthy. Public areas including hallways smell with stain-filled carpeting throughout. Most concerning for a hotel that caters to medical patients is that they do now tell customer before they check in that elevator does not work. From prior reviews the elevator has not worked and management does not tell customers. This is wrong and dangerous for patients who are forced to climb to as high as four floors. ||Rooms were satisfactorily clean and furnished. Coffee maker and bathroom sink need repair||Shame on you. And do more than provide the same generic response to review.
I've stayed for extended periods at MainStays Texas Medical Center three times over the past 2-3 years. The first time the hotel was switching to new owners who removed the free breakfast and switched to just coffee service the second time I visited. The last time I stayed was in May 2024 and they were in the process of renovating the hallways. I had a room on the 4th floor and they had finished replacing the rugs which was nice. The room itself was the same - comfortable, clean and there was a pot (missing a pan but I could've got one from front desk), coffee maker, toaster and utensils. The fridge was clean as was the bedding, sofa and bathroom. The safe wasn't working due to the hotel switching software or something to that effect. The walls, like most hotels, are thin so you do hear your neighbors but I still slept well and the a/c worked very well in my room. The one constant has been the shuttle driver - Gary - who has always been courteous and efficient. He treats those with medical issues kindly and helps them out when needed. There is also an alternate driver who takes over after 3p and he is also friendly and helpful. The shuttle is one of the main reasons I chose this hotel (IHG has a similar hotel but I thought this facility was nicer and the fitness center was way better) along with the kitchenette. I will say that you do have to review your bill prior to check out to ensure you haven't been mistakenly charged for smoking in the room. That happended to me twice and I had to to fight that charge, something you want to do while at the hotel and not after you leave. Overall, I recommend this hotel and will return the next time I'm in Houston and need access to the medical center.
Asked manager to cancel our reservation, he refused. Went out for dinner, came back to our room being flooded. No one called to let us know that our floor had been flooded, had to ask to be moved to a different room because of flooding. No apologies, no credits, just complete inconvenience. Worst stay ever! I'd never stay at one of these hotels ever again. Totally unprofessional staff and management! Avoid at all cost. If I could give this place a negative star rating I would!!!
Staff: As a reminder, this isn't hospitality. We are NOT in the business of providing a decent guest experience by any means. Since you guys are still in training, I'm gonna break it to you once again. NEVER give away our best rooms for any reason. DO NOT go out of your way to do anything for guests that costs us a dollar. Remember: Profits trump reputation. Guests and our brand are insignificant. Money is why we're here. Do Not to accommodate and make up for bad experiences. I don't want to find out that ya'll gave a guest a nicer room to make up for a sleepless night next to an inconsiderate person that wouldn't turn down the volume on their TV and refused be contacted. We lost so much money because of that!!! We had to tell those guests to move out twice during their stay, moving all of their stuff back and forth, wasting their time. But more importantly, you CANNOT waste OUR billable time and resources to go out of your way to replace a rotting sofa-bed mattress for a guest, even if that mattress happened to have dog hair and some guy's filthy pair of underwear from who knows when... In regards to housekeeping. Roaches are not our concern. Since we only give you a certain time frame to clean every room, DON'T waste time on cleaning inside the sofa beds. Half the time, nobody uses them as a bed. What you see on the outside is where you spend your time on. Everything else gets swept under the rug. It's that simple. Comprende? Now get out there and take their money!
Drove to Houston to take my Father in-law to MD Anderson. The free shuttle service was great. The not so great was the shower in our room would not get warm could only stand one shower. The gfi electric outlet in the bathroom would not work, the outlet by the big mirror in the room our hair dryer cord would not stay in kept falling out and to top it off no telling how many baby roaches I saw. And I was disappointed they didn't offer any kind of a breakfast in the morning..our room was 307.
My kids enjoyed it. Pool was clean and had a couple games that accommodated my 1, 5 & 6 year old. Store and fast food across the stress and delivery is available for local eating. Quiet hotel and staff was friendly except the shuttle driver. He kept lying saying people were waiting for the shuttle when it was other families waiting as well. But overall okay for a mini stay.
