MainStay Suites Durango - Extended stay hotel in Durango - 1260 Escalante Dr Building B, USA

Kind of hidden off highway in a little retail-professional area, but great location. Plenty of restaurants nearby. Room was great, clean and comfortable. Durango was our stopping place, not our destination so proximity to touristy places was not important. Very new type building and service was very satisfactory.

We checked into this hotel at the last minute as our original plans were canceled unexpectedly by Expedia for unknown reasons at another property in a nearby location. We had to scramble for a property that doesn't take pets as I am HIGHLY allergic to pets. Unfortunately, just about every decent property in Durango is pet friendly, which is infuriating, as some people would prefer a pet free or ADA ONLY (and REALLY ADA ONLY) property. Anyway, we checked in and didn't realize the building has one side that is "pet free" in terms of rooms, but the whole property allows pets everywhere!! That means elevators, the pool area, the breakfast and lobby area and the gym. Ugh - totally gross to have pets slobbering all over everything, and leaving their saliva and dander and pet hair all over everything. When I asked more questions about this of the front desk staff person who checked us in, she was dismissive, unsympathetic and somewhat rude. Not a huge fan of that attitude. At least some sympathy would have been welcomed. Anyway, as far as other comments - the room itself is decent, but the amenities in the room leave a little to be desired. If you're going to provide dish soap, why isn't there a dish sponge to wash dishes? Am I supposed to use a rag or paper towel? Stupid. And if you're going to provide a coffee maker and coffee packets, couldn't you throw in a few coffee filters too? Stupid again. At least the room itself and the property are clean enough, and it's nice to have a fridge and microwave and sink in the kitchenette area. But there are little amenities at other hotels of this same type that are more comprehensive. And the whole pets accepted but not on one side of the property doesn't really track in terms of being 'pet free.'

Excellent. Spotless. Big. Comfy. Efficient front desk. And who knew there was a couch and a kitchenette (haha, hence the name Mainstay “Suites.”) Nayarit Mexican Restaurant very close by is excellent too, especially the carne asada and Don Julio margarita.

Positive: The rooms were very spacious, clean, and modern. The breakfast was very delicious and provided just enough variety to choose eating at the hotel rather than eating out. Beds were very comfortable. Negative: The bathroom door was barn door style with no lock. This limited the privacy a little but not too burdensome. Negative: ""

Great spacious room with kitchenette. Clean, fresh smelling hotel with good hot breakfast, hottub and a pool. Only problem was pool water was extremely cold

Positive: The Management used to be awesome at this property. Unfortunately, it has changed and the difference is not very noteworthy. The cleanliness is the only item worth mentioning. The service from the front desk is just adequate and that is very unfortunate Negative: The Management does not tolerate guests who make noise complaints. They don't want to lose revenue even if that means the guest will likely be satisfied and return. This hotel makes its revenue from Groups and not from travelers who stay 365 per year. Negative: ""

This is a nice quiet hotel away from downtown (don't expect to walk to town). The bed was one of the most comfortable we've slept in. The room was very clean. I did have an issue with the air conditioner. It was a floor/wall unit next to the bed. And by next to, I mean 5 inches away, so you had to walk sideways to get between it and the bed. It took a long time to cool the room (it was high 80s and for some reason it was turned off when we arrived. The shower doors leaked on the floor a little, but it was a nice size. The shower head didn't have much power, but the water was nice and hot. We'd probably stay here again.
