Pound for Pound Chef always gets down.. A List chef who only seems to get better as the years go by.. always inspired cuisine… amazing wine list and unpretentious yet attentive service.. I’ve been three times and always very pleased! Many chefs fade into not the sunset.. not this Chef. Still a very significant culinary presence in the Bay Area.. thanks chef for keeping it real. Add on: Just had my 4th meal here and it was the best!

Madcap is an incredible restaurant in Marin County. Michelin star rated with a minimum of 10 course tasting menu that is to die for. It's an Asian American fusion and the menu changes with the seasons so you will always have a different experience. Every dish on the tasting menu will leave you breathless. Definitely a must try and it's on the cheaper side for a Michelin star restaurant. I loved the at atmosphere, very moody. Take your special someone there if you are into Asian style cuisine. You won't regret it.

Every dish is a surprise. More than half of them were memorable flavor-wise or had highlights, exquisite and pure delight. Never had such fragrant veggies. The only miss for me was the rib eye (surprisingly), which is too well-done and served as the second last dish, after 10 other amazing dishes I'm already full. Nonetheless, some polish and this place is in line for a second Michelin star!

Disappointed by the fact that I let them know three times ahead of my reservation that we were celebrating a birthday, and even at some point discretely during the dinner, and they forgot to bring the candle, even though they had assured me on the phone that they would do so. When you travel 1.5 hours to the restaurant and save up to dine there, you would expect a little care for each customer. When we arrived at the restaurant, a woman greeted us coldly and did not even acknowledge our reservation. Aside from that element which dampened my time there, Madcap owns a great plate collection which enhances one’s dining experience significantly! Their dishes were beautifully presented, and most of them had their produces’ flavours enhanced rather than masked, which was a strong positive element. Our waiter was delightful. If not for the birthday mishap and the unfriendliness of the hostess, I surely would have recommended them more.

This was a great dinner! I ate the best egg of my life. I loved every dish. We got the two extra options, the caviar and the abalone. The abalone was so good. Honestly, it was so good and definitely worth the drive. We caught it on our way back from Mendocino.

Let’s talk about the bright side first: the dry aged ribeye was good. The atmosphere was good. The service was OK despite its 20% service fee. However, the food is subpar and do not worth the price. (Note that my taste is more Asian than American.) Food is so salty that I can’t feel my tongue until now. The Dashi is salty. The scallop is salty. Even the slow cooked egg is salty. I had to drink a lot of water between dishes and that still didn’t help. The chef tried to put some Asian elements into their cooking, but clearly failed. For example, the Dashi that came with the scallop was very salty and covered the umami and sweetness of the scallop. Dishes like slow cooked egg and lobster mousse were overly creamy and heavy. Oh also, the wasabi was extremely watery and flavorless - you can find better at your local Sushi joint.

The food is a delicious fusion of French and Japanese. Each course is meticulously prepared and exploding with flavor. Does not disappoint. Reasonably priced and cozy atmosphere. Service is also 5 stars.

Tgis was an amazing experience! The atmosphere and details from the wood finish to the mushroom-y ceramic coffee cup and plate tied together this fine dining experience. Each taste plate served was visually appealing with flavor to match! Out of all the tasting items served, there was not one that we didn't love. The service is outstanding. I have more photos but need to find them! Luckily, I do have the tasting menu and table setting photos!
