WHAT AN EXPERIENCE 😊 .... If you love HISTORY then this is a not so hidden but overlooked tourist attraction. Hard to say those words when the Mabry-Hazen family were slave owners. This known fact is the reason why many Black Knoxvillians have never made it a priority to "scratch the itch of curiosity" for the house that sits on a hill off Dandridge Ave. Plus I'm NOT PAYING to visit an estate that made its livelihood off of human trafficking of Black Americans. However, the new Executive Director has made it his mission to tell THE COMPLETE HISTORY of the Mabry-Hazen legacy. I was able to fully appreciate the special Juneteenth Celebration Tour that took place 6/19/2023. This tour was free, hence me taking the opportunity to relieve my curiosity about the house on the hill. This is an older historic home so it's really not accessible for those with mobility deficiencies. The tour consists of ambulating up and down stairs to key places in the home. This can be quite difficult because this is an older structure therefore the steps are not like modern day accessible ones.
The tour was very enjoyable. The docent did a great job explaining the soap opera like history of the original owner which included a "wild west" type of gun battle. The extra bonus was the extensive Christmas Decorations in the home.
Lovely tour. Guide was very knowledgeable about history of Knoxville and the families who lived there. Lots of historic furniture, dishes and silver. Beautiful old home lovingly restored on 8 acres with beautiful trees, shade, and an old cemetery.
Historic house in East knoxville. Attended a wedding here with ceremony on the porch and the reception under a tent. 2 unisex bathrooms in the guest house (only con for a large wedding). Plenty of parking. Pretty atmosphere.
This place is a Knoxville treasure. I’ve been a handful of times through the years for various reasons: attending a wedding, annual Halloween Victorian seance, Night at the Museum, and most recently their Garden Party. Their docents are so friendly, the house is spectacular. I learn something new every time I’m there. Highly recommend signing up for their newsletter!
Had an incredible time and tour with Patrick. He was so knowledgeable, thoughtful and enthusiastic. He is clearly a scholar and a credit to the House. I recommend a visit and a tour.
What a Knoxville historical gem. We went for a Juneteenth centered tour and it was incredibly insightful and informative. Shout out to Joshua, our frienly tour guide that was willing to go "off-script" to answer our questions. The house is beautifully frozen in time. We intend to come back, and would highly recommend this for anyone remotely interested in history.
We went for the 4th to avoid the crowds downtown. Had a great view of the fireworks and learned some juicy hundred year old gossip / local history. The storyteller was very engaging and the house is really interesting to peruse. I'd like to go back when the house isn't so crowded to take more time in the house.

It was absolutely wonderful finally getting a chance to stop in this place and meet Melanie. This shop has only been open for a few months, but you can tell she pours her soul into every cup of coffee every day. Daily meal specials and all home made,
My cortado was served properly with a glass of sparkling water. Many cafes omit this. I prefer it and will return for that fact alone. I like the interior with functional study/computer space. Itâs intimate and was mostly full, yet appropriately qu
