This place is like taking a step back a few decades, in a lovely way. Lydia’s reminds me of supper clubs from the Midwest. Absolutely steeped in tradition, Lydia’s is truly an experience. Reservations are recommended. Each entree comes with various accoutrements. Salads come first, then huge plates of pasta and ravioli and fries. A scoop of ice cream rounds out the experience. On the most recent visit, we also got a blooming onion. Most of the food is good, some of it is great. The steak I got was okay but nothing special. It’s more about the experience here.

First time going here since we've lived in butte, the service was awesome, the amount of food that you get is great. Alittle on the pricey side. Me and my husband both had steak, the steak was AWESOME. The rest comes with raviolis, spaghetti, french fries, a salad, sweet potato salad, and at the end ice cream. So you definitely shouldn't leave hungry. Only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because it is a little on the higher price side.

Pricey and needing an update! I feel this restaurant is caught in a time capsule, aged and deteriorating over time and the owner neglected to update the place as needed. Everyone seemed happy and proud to work here. The chairs and couches in the bar immediately caught my eye and need to be thrown out. I felt like I was sitting in bacteria the entire dining experience (see photos). The server we had was young and trying, however fell short on the experience as if she lacked training. The sweet potato red onion baby food mush, raviolis, and giant plate of spaghetti + ice cream served in addition to the meals here were not desirable and very much shined poorly on the management decisions here as well as the kitchen staff. I'm sure you are losing money! The food was expensive and barely edible. The French fries were called twigs by my friends ten year old son. From the start it looked too dark in the bar and it's probably due to the facilities needing a serious cleaning. The idea of the nostalgia and history here was fun, but the cleanliness and food quality factors fell terribly short. This place needs a Gordon Ramsay type to fix it. I am sure there is more that a fair share of food leaving in to go boxes due to the abundance of lack luster accoucheaments served with each meal. BTW for the price of dinner, we could have enjoyed some fresh french bread, not stale bread cigar like bread sticks. Really, all in all, this place is a disaster and needs significant improvement. Maybe it was an off night? I was just visiting and in the future will try to persuade everyone in my party to go elsewhere if I have any say. Please fix the cleanliness and food preparation and quality here before people start leaving sick.

It was an awesome experience. Salad is waiting for you at the table. The servers were very helpful and attentive. The food was amazing. Steak was cooked to perfection. You also get a plate of spaghetti, fries and some ravioli with your meal. Then a small bowl of ice cream at the end. Very retro feel with an awesome atmosphere and vibe. Definitely would recommend this restaurant if you're in the area.

This place was my Grandfather's favorite and having heard of it for decades, we went for dinner this evening. With a vibe of yesteryear, the food was plentiful. Our perfectly cooked steak dinner was served with salad, sweet potato mash, ravioli AND spaghetti, and topped off with spumoni ice cream. Lisa, our server was fantastic and shared some of the history with us. So happy we went!

Went in on a Thursday night, expecting a clown show based on some of the reviews others have posted. This place did not disappoint. Maybe I have been working in Montana too long, but I am from a food town, big city. I am well-traveled and familiar with the foodservice industry. I am a demanding and highly critical patron who often laughs at what qualifies as a decent restaurant in rural areas. Regardless, I found nothing wrong with this establishment. It was clean, well-decorated, and classy. The music selection was superb. Steaks and seafood well-prepared, to the liking of my Montana-bred counterparts. Limited menu? I would agree it could benefit from less of fries and more baked potatoes, as others have mentioned. More bread and fewer crackers, yes. But I didn’t miss that one bit… this spot feels great because it is unique, quirky, and properly managed from my viewpoint. Zero issues with the cheery and intelligent server staff, who all coordinated their efforts to ensure we were attended to throughout the meal. The menu was slightly confusing with the “accompaniments,” but there wasn’t a moment when we weren’t shoving something hot and tasty into our food holes. The dining room was pleasant and quiet, allowing table conversation which the waiter skillfully avoided interrupting. Relaxing and satisfying after a long, stressful day. Sure, the restroom trash was hard to reach with your used paper towel, but I am really digging deep here. An enjoyable experience, and at a good value, too, even in the current economy. There is a reason the lot is full every night, and I would consider Lydia’s a top destination in Butte for any number of special occasions.

Quite an experience around 7.00 pm. Great people watching, and fantastic but slightly overwhelming dinner. Staff really friendly and helpful. The bar is great, with a little memorial to Anthony Bourdain, but they need to bone up on how to make a decent Old Fashioned.

This restaurant seemed very promising online but it was not. We had made reservations for 7pm which the host could not find. She ended up sitting us in the corner of the restaurant away from all of the other customers and when we asked about all the other open tables she had said that they were all reserved. The entire time we were there, no one else had came into the restaurant. It made me feel like we were put in the corner because we are minorities. THE PLACE: outdated restaurant, very big restaurant though. THE FOOD: none of the food went well together. Lots of different food came with the main dish. Crab had no taste, melted butter seemed watered down. We were served whole green onions, not cut up. None of the food tasted fresh or even made in the restaurant, tasted like packaged food. THE SERVICE: the staff was friendly and We were checked on regularly. WOULD I RETURN? Never and I would never recommend this restaurant to anyone. This place is overpriced!

This is such a cool place. Really great environment and full of butte history. The owner was bad tending and was so friendly and easy to talk with. I’m sad we don’t live closer because I would be there all the time! Totally worth the stop!!
