Lum-Yuen Restaurant - Chinese restaurant in Salem - 3190 Portland Rd NE, USA

We decided to finally try this for the first time tonight as we've heard a lot of folks talk about this place through social media. We ordered on their website for pick-up and the total wait time from getting there to food pick up was around 12 minutes. Definitely fast and good service, and I can't really say the food was bad - it just left a lot to be desired. Fried rice was extremely bland which was a serious letdown. The chow mein was decent, the sweet and sour chicken wasn't crisp/soft in some bites but the sauce was decent. Honestly the best dish was the Mu Shu Pork - would recommend that for sure from a presentation and taste standpoint. Salem is a very weird city in the sense that there is no defact-o Chinese restaurant anymore these days. All have their own singular dish that's great, and everything else is mediocre - average - food. Lum-Yuen is another example of that. Solid 3 star. ⭐⭐⭐

The food is great! People serving are pleasant and hospitable. The atmosphere is authentic and clean. I would recommend this to my friends and anyone looking for great Chinese food. Management also recognizes Veterans and gives discounts accordingly. That makes me proud of them for how they treat our Veterans so well. Very good prices and variety of specials each day of each week, lunch and dinner are excellent!!

It's a little prices for the quality of food. Lots of little flys around you as your eating. Food was good no bug complaints besides the Flys. The service was excellent tho. Our server was very attentive and friendly.

I persuaded the officers of the volunteer organization to which I belong to hold their officers' meeting here once a month, so I can be assured to taste their Almond Fried Chicken on a regular basis. It wasn't a hard sell; dining "family-style" at a Chinese-American restaurant was much easier on the budget than our previous choices, and it tasted better, too. The food is standard Chinese-American fare done right-- fresh, in copious quantities, and at a fair price. The aforementioned Almond Fried Chicken is my favorite, though its sauce is dangerously delicious. The atmosphere is not outstanding, and hasn't seen much updating, but the dining room seems clean and in well repair. The dining room is well-lit and often quite crowded with happy diners. Our group has been sometimes disappointed when we haven't been able to get a more secluded situation, but it hasn't deterred us from coming. The waitstaff is attentive and very friendly. Our group has become regulars now, so we get to banter and feel special. I will add one personal caveat, though-- when ordering take-out for my own family, I have had several errors on the order. Be sure to check your order before leaving the restaurant.

Always have great Chinese food! We never get a bad entrée from here. The prices are good and the service is great.

This place is nice. Good fresh food. The waitress that we got wasn't happy to be there, it seemed like. My friend initially asked for a table that was located in a quieter area. Our waitress said she wanted to save the tables for bigger parties even though none came thru while we were eating. All around, I can't give this place a bad review because it is clean, has good food, and the other waitresses were friendly. I wouldn't wanna be seated in the same area should I come here again. For me, it's mostly about ckeanliness and friendliness. I treat others with respect, and I kinda want to be treated the same way, especially if I'm paying for it.

This place used be a go to spot for my mom's bowling crew, but after this last time we not they will be returning. The food was so so. The chicken and broccoli was ok and the rice was mushy and tasteless. None of the food we had was any good. This place used to be good. The staff was pretty good and the service was so-so. I just know for me and my people we will not be coming back. Try Chinns Chinese food on South commercial. They are pretty good for sure! I'm not being biased. We try a new Chinese every week. So you get the truth from me. Same thing goes for Mexican restaurants.

Good food, we had a wide of variety. Everyone seemed to enjoy it. Great service, large group on a busy night. Atmosphere I always love how the restaurant is decorated.
