My wife and I stayed at Lou's B&B on a trip to Durango. We stayed in the Southwest rooms. The rooms are beautiful and very comfortable. My wife has worked as a housekeeping manager at a high end lodge and gave them a 'thumbs up'. Loved the walk in shower. It took two tries to sign on to WiFi, but then it worked fine. The breakfasts were outstanding and the owners were great to visit with during breakfast. We didn't even know that they had dogs until the second day. We were discussing work, lifestyles, animals, etc. and they introduced us to two well behaved dogs. I don't hesitate at all to recommend Lou's B&B to friends and family.

We made a two nights reservation for the Western room at Lou's Bed and Breakfast, but we did not know exactly what to expect, since there are not many reviews about this place. We were warmly surprised by its uniqueness, though. Emma Lou and Al were very friendly, and our room was clean, comfortable, and very spacious. It has a full kitchen, study desk, and breakfast table. The hosts are flexible about breakfast time, and have lots of information about Durango and the surrounding area. The room's decor is unique, and the guest book is full of awesome reviews. If you like interacting with people, and don't mind pets at breakfast time, this is a great place to stay.

We don't normally feel the need to leave reviews about places we stay while traveling, However This B & B was so Unique, The owner's Lou and her husband Al were so accommodating, The room we stayed in "The Western Room" was decorated so cute, the bed was sooo comfortable , the room spacious and absolutely spotless. Lou's breakfasts were delicious , in fact we stayed an extra night just for another breakfast :-)) The owners are animal lovers therefore our next visit we will take our dog so we can stay longer. Al was so knowledgeable about all there is to do in Durango and actually the entire Four Corners area, Plan on more than a few day's to enjoy the sights. We WIILL go back, The price was less than a Motel room and so much better than a motel, Oh yeah, had a full size kitchen with a Grocery store right out the back door !!!! Lou and Al are wonderful people !!!! Thanks for the Hospitality

Located just a short trolly or car ride south of Downtown Durango, this quiet spot gave us some much needed quiet rest & relaxation.||||I teach private, in-home wine tasting classes and was scheduled to do an event on the Saturday night we arrived in town. I took my husband with me and we made a short weekend of it. When we checked out the next day, we visited nearby Mesa Verde National Park.||||We arrived around 1:00 pm and questioned our choice in lodging, as the neighbor's yard was grossly unkept. After realizing that was not our destination, we were curious. Upon approaching the front door, we were greeted by Lou's smiling face.||||As we were shown into the West room, we really lit up. Definitely built and finished off by someone who is a hobby handy-man and not a professional carpenter, the room was "rustic" and functional as well as roomy and bright.||||Because of the location and the lack of adjoining rooms, it was a pleasant change from our usual stay at a motel. It actually ruined motels for me! :)||||Breakfast the next day was GREAT with fresh fruits, juice, and french toast (we are not coffee drinkers, but it was offered). We had plenty to eat and it was a great start to the day, including the chat with our hostess and her husband.||||Going out the alley side of the room, a grocery store was a few yards away (very convenient!) and across the parkinglot was Main St. and a trolley stop on both sides (fun ride, just $1 each time you board it).||||The cleanliness of the room was great.||||There was no microwave (did not notice this before buying a microwave dinner), and the stove did not work (which we forgot to tell our hosts but will call them this week to report). Luckily, there are a few fast foodrestaurants a short drive away that are open later.||||Certainly not luxurious and I regreat not bringing my own pillow as I usually do on trips, but we had a good quiet night's sleep!||||If you are traveling with your dog(s), this location is pet friendly; just be sure to mention it when booking.||||The swamp cooler was super at keeping the room nice and chilly and the building held a good temperature overnight. I didn't notice what the room had for heating because we didn't need it.||||I made sure to get a lot of pics (attached).||||We did not need wi-fi, so I didn't ask if it was available. We stayed to relax and re-connect, not to stay connected to the inter-highway (that's part of our daily lives and we needed the escape!).||||If it's luxury you are after, spend the bigger bucks at the Marriott. This place is homey, humble, quiet, and a great getaway ~ which is what we needed!

Hard to describe, let alone fairly rate, this place. It is a little strange and nothing like any place we have ever stayed before. Lou and Al, the proprietors, are the nicest people EVER, very friendly and down to earth. I SO want them to do well! The breakfasts that Lou makes and serves at her own kitchen table at whatever time you want in the morning are incredible. The room itself (we stayed in the "Western Room") is odd. VERY clean, and the bed is comfortable. The price for bed and breakfast at the height of summer in Durango is $110, incredibly cheap, believe me. But be prepared: the place and the neighborhood are both pretty funky (not unsafe, don't get me wrong, just, well . . .maybe the word is "lived-in.") The "kitchenette" looks like it dates from the 80s. No real bathroom. The shower (nicely tiled and squeaky clean) steps right out into the kitchen, and the toilet is in a closet. You have to brush your teeth, shave, etc., in the kitchenette sink. No AC, just a swamp cooler, but that was OK once it got going, after all this is Colorado. Decor is cute, kind of western Kitsch. Walking distance to City Market is a plus. We had our two dogs with us, and you could not ask for a more pet friendly place. Right outside the room door is a large, fairly shady enclosed area that they could run around in. The Animas River Trail (my favorite) is right down the street. If you don't care about luxury and you are up for a little adventure and "local color" and don't want to spend much money, go for it. I would pick this over the Super 8 any day. Just don't expect a "normal" sort of place and you will be happy.

Stayed here recently with my wife. The place was spotless, breakfast was tasty and Lou and her husband very welcoming. They are not in the centre of Durango but right by a free tram that can run you in, there are shops and restaurants nearby so if you can't be bothered there is an alternative. There's no view but you don't have far to go to get one. If I was in Durango again I would go back.

The other (2) reviews pretty much hit the mark. The place is definitely "unique". Not a bad place at all, the host is very friendly and helpful and they are pet friendly as well (if that's what you are looking for) ||||If you are used to luxury and comfort this is NOT the place for you. The mattress is probably well over 10 yrs old and its an old style TV with a fuzzy picture. You don't have control over the room temp so if you are too hot or cold you have to let the owner know and she will be happy to adjust it for you. (makes it a bit inconvenient if you get too hot in the middle of the night) It kinda reminded me of staying at my Grandmas house, you have everything that you NEED, but its not the Hilton.

Ridiculous. The wifi didn't work, the mattress was awful and you have no control over the room temperature. When I asked the owner to turn the heat down he just told me to open a window... we were there in the middle of December and a freezing cold breeze isn't the solution we were hoping for. When we got back from dinner their dogs were barking and barked for about 2 hours straight and then in the morning we got a nice 6 o'clock wake up call from more dog barking. The back yard is a grocery store parking lot, the toilet is constantly clogged and the owner's husband is kind of just creepy and dumb. Terrible experience, didn't sleep a wink, the best thing about this place was leaving.
