Log Cabin - Featured Reviews (5)
The Natchitoches Log Cabin Guest House has been under new ownership since May of 2020. New renovations to the interior and exterior makes for a great weekend on Cane River Lake. Also no pest issues noted as was mentioned in the past review from 4 years ago. All is well at the Log Cabin, trust me!
We arrived in Natchitoches during their Meat Pie Festival and by some miracle, the log cabin was available, The top floor has the bedroom, bathroom and a screened verandah overlooking your private boat ramp and the river. Downstairs is the lounge and kitchen. The fridge is fully stocked. The bathroom is stocked with all sorts of pampering goodies and there is nothing nicer than sitting on your verandah having a drink while the lights of Natchitoches come on. It is a very short walk over the bridge into the town proper. Just wonderful. ||We thought we were so lucky and it made our weekend special.
The Log Cabin Guest House is like staying in a cabin in the woods, but a ten minute walk will take you to to a dozen eateries, not to mention shopping, shopping, shopping! The cabin was built on the banks of the Cane River in the 1930s as a writer’s cabin and is directly across the river from historic Front Street. It is loaded with charm and not a few eccentricities. ||From the street the cabin appears to be one level but you are viewing the second floor which contains the bedroom/sitting room and the fairly large bathroom. A set of narrow stairs with a sharp 90 degree turn and a bump on your head (virtually every time) takes you down to the living room, dining room, kitchen. Both levels have a porch facing the river which is just a dozen feet away. Both have several rocking chairs in which to relax and enjoy the view of historic Natchitoches, the upper porch off the bedroom/sitting room being screened in. This was a great place to enjoy morning coffee and watch the sunshine hit Front Street across the river. ||The cabin’s décor is a hodgepodge of local artist prints, nautical paraphernalia, and various memorabilia making the rooms cozy as well as quite interesting. The queen size bed is very comfortable. The downstairs living room has a sleeper sofa, great for kids or another couple that you are close friends with as there is only one bathroom (off the bedroom upstairs).||Downside: 1) No breakfast to speak of though there are packaged muffins, bagels, and cereal along with an assortment of cold drinks and juices in the full-size refrigerator (but you will need to buy milk if you want cereal). There is also coffee though I would urge you to stop by the Coffee store on Front Street and pick up some fresh ground of your choice in order to truly enjoy having a morning cup on the porch. 2) The bedroom/sitting room has a vintage but quite comfortable chaise lounge as the only place to sit, though I suppose you could bring in a rocker from the porch. 3) Negotiating the stairs was somewhat challenging but not a great deal so. ||Upside: 1) Great breakfasts are a short walk away. 2) Everything is a short walk away: eating, shopping, live entertainment.
This is a unique and pleasant place to stay in Natchitoches. It's within easy walking distance of town, right on the lake with a great view of town, with a fabulous screened-in porch, private, and not your ordinary hotel room. The A/C, bed, and furnishings were comfortable. The downside is that, like another reviewer wrote, this is like a cabin in the woods except it's not in the woods. By that I mean, there are mice or rats in the walls/ceilings and other "wildlife." You have to know what you're getting into--This is not the Ritz. The one advice I have for the owner is to have someone do a deep cleaning, and to clean more often generally - it was dustier than I would prefer; seemed like no one had been there for awhile.
My husband brought me here for our 2nd anniversary in 2011, and we had the most amazing time. The bed was very comfortable, the cabin was clean, cozy, and although small, it was the perfect size!! The whole town is just the neatest place. Can't wait to come back. I hope we can stay at the log cabin again!
The stay here was excellent! Rooms were very comfortable and clean and Kelly (the innkeeper) made our stay much more enjoyable. She greeted us every morning with a smile and portrayed a very pleasant atmosphere.
Great food and location, but even better customer service. The owner was so pleasant and polite. I enjoyed talking with her. She saw that my pancakes were on the dark side and stated that she would go to the kitchen and remake them for me. I am not f
This is a must stay B&B. The decor is fantastic. Staff was very accommodating.
Room was beautiful and a fantastic bed.
Walking distance from river and shopping
Loved our stay! It checked all the things that are important to me: central location, gated parking, clean room, friendly staff and beautiful decor. Will definitely stay here again.
